No one will come to turn the hydrant off either. As I see it, even w/a sprinkler cap on, it is the lazy parents way of letting their kids cool off. Most parks have sprinklers for the kids to play under.
When I was a kid, the moms at the park got a permit from the city to close off a part of the street near the playground. It was a one way street and not at all busy. We didn't have sprink

Obviously Julian you were not born and raised here. Nationality also plays a HUGE part in where your from. I'm Irish and grew up in Manhattan, specifically Inwood. And that makes a lot of sense. If I meet someone who is Dominican & lives in Manhattan, I think either Washington Heights, Inwood or Dominican Harlem (which is around Broadway in the 130's north to where the Hts. starts).

Burlington Coat Factory (Burlington is around 20th & 6th). Or Macy's. Hopefully they'll have something tasteful and not tacky like I've seen too often on little girls. There's also Kleinfelds . It's a bridal place but they may have Communion dresses there. If they do, guaranteed they will be over the top.

I got my first fake ID at 15. Never had a problem. Of course that almost 20 years ago..........Like Tribeca said, act like you know what your doing, don't fumble, add a year onto your DOB.
But please, do everyone a favor. Since we have had to deal w/a few idiots who can't handle their liquor & wound up getting killed (not trying to scare you but it's the truth), don't

You apparently didn't live here during the 80's. Had you, you would have seen the gritty places. They were everywhere from crack heads smoking on the subway to the coke dealers on the corners. I guess when you grew up w/it, you're glad its gone.

I'm not cranky...I just do not & never got & never will get the hype w/living in Manhattan. And I never experienced that hype until I went to high school in the Bronx. These chicks were AMAZED that I lived in "the city" (as they called it). Yeah...ok...whatever floats your boat.
I guess when you did it most of your life, the thrill is LONG gone.

I was born in Sloan Hospital for women...that would be Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center on W.168th & Broadway in Washington Heights...the REAL Upper West Side!
Raised in Inwood for 18 years, then moved to the Bronx. Been there since 92. Believe me, it was a step UP in life!

A real NYer (ie from this city) was BORN, RAISED & EDUCATED HERE. They can tell you what neighborhood they grew up in, where their friends lived, what stores are gone, which are still around.
I grew up in Inwood. There was a movie theater on Dyckman St. before McDonalds. A Fanny Farmer on 207th & Bway. Another movie theater on 207th & Sherman. My T Burger was opposit Fanny Farmer.

I live in Morris Park, the other side of Parkchester. You want an honest opinion. KEEP OUT OF PARKCHESTER. First off, it is LOADED, I mean LOADED w/sex offenders (http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/nsor/search_index.htm zip code 10462). Secondly, the crime in that area is something you don't want to deal w/. Shootings, drugs, you name it, its there. While the Parkchester Condos are nice, i

I have never had a garbage disposal or a dishwasher EVER in my entire life & don't plan on ever having one unless the place comes w/it. There are more important things in life to quibble over....stop being lazy. The gunk in the sink goes into the garbage which then gets thrown out...the shock to think NYers actually do that!!!

I don't understand why you or anyone else is shocked at the racism in this city. Most people are racist they just don't have the ba!!s to admit it.
And I don't want to hear about the "melting pot". We may have all nationalities here & while we are tolerant of each other, that does not mean we get along & live together.

The real light shows are the ones homeowners put on. Go to some areas & you will see some real beauts.
I'd say most of Staten Island, Bay Ridge/Bensonhurst in Bklyn, Howard Beach in Queens & Morris Park/Throgs Neck/Pelham Parkway in the Bronx.

If the 5 train to Dyre Ave would run more often than every 20 minutes.
If yuppies would stop paying rents the size of mortgages.
If a roller coaster was built on 42nd street & took you east to west.
If people would stop throwing their damn garbage on the streets & start using GARBAGE cans.
If people would STFU on their damn cell phones.

I would say the area is probably more noisey and busy than others. Don't be surprised if people are hanging out all night as that's the norm.
What about the outer boros? Everyone wants to live in Manhattan for reasons I'll never get. But there are places just as close & the rent is half that of what you'd pay in Manhattan.
Where is your husband going to be working?

The only city pools I've ever gone to are John Jay on the east side in the 70's I think & Cherokee which was near 59th & 10th but its closed now.
Weekends are more crowded than weekdays. There is also the stupidity factor...lots of stupid a$$ people in this city who act like they've never seen a pool before.

Yeah definately take the busier streets. I use to go to John Jay at night near Columbus Circle. I would walk over after work, which was rush hour so very busy. But at 9pm a lot of streets are dead, espically in the winter (which for you won't be a problem). I would have to walk back to the east side for the express bus but I ALWAYS walked down Central Park South on the south side (non park s

Depends on where you live & what ding dong school your kid goes to. I went to the local Catholic school up the block from me in upper Manhattan. Everyone I knew walked to school. Hell when my mom was 5 she walked to school by herself (of course that was almost 60 years ago).
I went to high school in the Bronx so I took the bus, along w/100 other kids going to different schools throughout
