THE New York Attitude (state of mind) - 17 years ago
Having been to NYC twice, with the 3rd trip 5 months away, and working towards moving there in April........the NY attitude & state of mind is simple. New Yorkers do NOT let ANYTHING defeat them, get in their way, or bring them down. They're attitude is do it, do it now, whether you win or lose.... If you lose, do it until you win, which really means until you succeed. This must bby eagleswingsunltd - What is a New Yorker? Add your definition!
Re: RENT AN APARTAMENT AT NEW YORK - 17 years ago
I did the same search you're doing now last year. If you're alone, I know a lady that rents out one room w/bathroom on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It's a nice place, & she gives you a key to the apt to come & go as you please. It rented for $65 per night, but probably has gone up. But still an excellent deal. If you'll send me your basic personal info along witby eagleswingsunltd - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: daily budget question - 17 years ago
You didn't say whether you'd found a place to stay at yet, hope you found one. I just read your thread. But I was going to suggest a local in Manhattan, on the UWS I rented from in April 2005, if you're alone, she has a great 1 br w/bathroom for $65 per night. She may have gone up, but it would be far less than the less expensive hotels in Manhattan. I'll be glad to forwarby eagleswingsunltd - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: safety walking and taking subway at night - 17 years ago
Roxanne; All in all, before midnight, I don't see much of a problem. If you stay in well lit areas or where alot of people traffic is at, you should be fine. In daylight, it really doesn't matter where you are, you should be safe. As a single guy with my 2nd trip to Manhattan this past April for one week, most nights I was out well past midnight. Dave; You might try Radio City Apt @ www.radiocityapts.com. But this late, it may be tough to find a place for 3 in NYC for that price. You may also want to search on ORbitz, Expedia, or Travelocity. Good Luck and enjoy NYC. Within 2 hrs of my first trip to Manhattan, while in Trump Tower getting some lobby pictures, I did indeed bump into "The Donald" himself. I was standing near the podium at Trump org elevators. The employee there as we were talking, said "speaking of the man", and Donald Trump walks right in front of me, and around me, to get onto the elevator. Re: Fly or drive to NYC - 17 years ago
I originally took the same approach from NC, to drive there, take the train, (cheaper), or flying. Youre by far better off flying into an airport. I prefer LaGuardia. If you drive, you'll be fatigued even with multiple drivers, and it's slow from Ohio. If you fly, you'll be there in half the time to get there. Get an early flight, and even with using a shuttle service to wherby eagleswingsunltd - Ask a New Yorker :

Hi Jennie; I've been by the club, but I wouldn't think there's much of a dress code. Ask 500 nyers of their view of jay-z's club and you get 500 answers. It's no surprise that if you visit the club, you'd grab a chance to see "the man". But......I ask you. Hi Paula; Since your trip date has passed, I'm sure your first NYC trip was incredible. If you walked outside in Manhattan, you had a great time. I'd love to hear some of your experiences. I've been there twice, and plan not only on going again, but moving there one day. Re: PLEEEEEEEEZ ANSWER!!!! - 17 years ago
Susie; In all seriousness, walking uptown/downtown the blocks are much faster to walk. It's believable you can walk one block in 5 minutes, give or take a few minutes, based on people traffic on the sidewalks. For crosstown walking, the blocks are much wider & people traffic is a bit slower, so it can take 10-15 minutes, depending on the time of day. But.........for tourists, anby eagleswingsunltd - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Room to Rent - 17 years ago
James; For what you're looking for in your price range, I believe I have your answer. This past April I stayed in a nice apt I shared with the owner, but seldom saw her. So in effect, with my own set of keys, I had run of the place at will, literally. I'll provide all information needed along with her contact information. I speak to her weekly on other business matters. Fby eagleswingsunltd - Ask a New Yorker :

Chris; I'm not from NYC, but've been there twice. For a honeymoon trip, Central Park is a must WITH the carriage rides. But for one or 2 meals, I highly recommend dining at 2 french restaurants. Tim; I've a suggestion I highly recommend. For your next trip to NYC, I presume Manhattan, why not stay with a local in their place. I did this april 2006, and found a great place I shared with the owner. We became great friends, and most locals love to hear of tourists activities. Re: A real map?! - 17 years ago
Tindra; The maps I've used for Manhattan & it's subway system is from the MTA maps. They're folded, but what I did was to take the 2 most traveled areas I plan on being in and cut them out in 8 x 11, fold them back to back & laminate them. Fold them verticle & they'll stay in your pockets. They're also protected from dampness, or rain, etc.by eagleswingsunltd - Ask a New Yorker :

I've been to NYC, Manhattan, twice in 2 years. This past April was for one week. I've talked to many locals & from my own experience I'm convinced of this. To get around, I used 3 forms of transportation; subway, cabs, walking. For longer distances, I used the subway, even if I had to wait a while for the next train. Re: Best New York Moment - 17 years ago
Upon my first ever NYC trip in Manhattan, I arrived on Thursday morning. Checked into the hotel, then scampered off with my NY pace to the tours I'd planned. I kept getting confused on directions with uptown/downtown. During all this, I wound up near 5th ave @ 55th st. When I saw a bar called Trump Bar.
