the Hallmark on Madison and about 40th for sure. Also most Barnes & Noble have a good selection this time of year. Books and puzzles do go together quite often so I would give The Strand a shot too.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Lighten up, Tracy! - 12 years ago
Oracle you stated your point perfectly. A point I also share. I have not read Tracy's interview as yet, but I could pretty much say that to the majority of protesters. Give me a message, something we can discus and work towards together. Maybe they need to study the Summer of Love to learn how to protest. I am glad they are speaking out and not being silent, but give me a distinct messaby Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Aww that makes me sad that a place called Lugo's is not a shining star. That is my maiden name Oracle. Still, I'll give it a whirl on my next visit. Oh wow, I just looked it up and it's Italian, not Puerto Rican or Spanish (Lugo, Spain). Still want to give it a goby Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Daycare for my child for 4 days - 12 years ago
I don't know of any place that will take a child for a short period of time. This would be a good time to have fun with your child and teach him/her their boundaries. They only act how you expect them to act.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Why are New Yorkers so rude? - 12 years ago
Good Answer Cozz! I love NY and have made the most amazing friends there. I have never had anyone be rude to me. Just the opposite. I would go once a year for a week if I could.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Breakfast Buffet and evening attractions - Feb - 12 years ago
Cozz!!!! Great to hear from you! It's been ages! Great idea on Grand Central. Lots of choices, though not a lot for a hot breakfast. But lots of seating. 25 is a lot for an establishment because of the hundrends already asking for service. They only have so much staff. If I were a mgr and knew in advance I would have an extra wait person and an extra cook. For evening bowling iby Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Breakfast Buffet and evening attractions - Feb - 12 years ago
Delmonico's Diner is the closest thing I saw to a breakfast buffet while we were there. We ate there twice and enjoyed it. Lots to choose from, hot and cold food. I think 25 people at once is hard on any business. There is another breakfast/coffee place across the street. I don't recall the name, and maybe another on the north corner same side as Delmonico's. Pearl Duncan - NY'er of the Month - 12 years ago
I loved reading her interview. I agree with a lot of what she said. She has a good handle on things. I will keep an eye out for her book to give to my favorite historian and then read myself. Great job KM.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Central Park Wedding - 12 years ago
Oracle is correct about sticking to hotels. A group of us from all over got together in June and several stayed at the Affinia Eastgate Towers. Fabulous layout! Kitchen, dining area, living room, 2 bathrooms, 1 bedroom with 2 queen beds, 1 bedroom with 2 twin beds, and a sofabed in the living room. Very spacious living room area. Here is the link that shows room layouts - Best wishes toby Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

You should not have a problem getting a cab at all. I have never felt unsafe while in NYC, especially in Manhattan. Just use your common sense, no daydreaming while walking, hand on your purse, etc. Same as in any other downtown. Be adventurous and have a great time. You are not to far from The Highline. Try to make it over. Since you don't start until 9:00 a morning walk on it wouby Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: staying at Bubba and Bean - 12 years ago
I have not been to Bubba & Bean but remember only hearing good things about it over the years I have visited this site. I commend you for not believing you HAVE to stay near Times Square. It's my least favorite place actually. When my husband and I were there in June (with several others from this forum ) we stumbled upon The Jane Hotel. I would consider staying there. Re: Spanish Harlem? - 12 years ago
First where ever you land - sublet. This way you are not tied for a long period of time (or it could feel tortuously long if it's wrong)to a neighborhood. Keep in mind you want to be near a food store, a laundrymat, and the subway. www.sublet.com is good to start. Google Harlem Today to see if there are some things to help you out. I found this article. Best of luck to you!by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Visiting friend - where to go? He likes war history & sports - 12 years ago
My husband loves history as do I. He has read a lot about Lowell Thomas which led us to visiting the Explorer's Club while we were there in June. We would have loved to have gone to a lecture but had plans that night. Instead we enjoyed a self tour before we spent the day up the street at Central Park and then the Metropolitan Museum (full of history) and where you can view whole rooms ofby Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Please recommend BOOKS about/set in NewYork - 12 years ago
Gosh darn you KM! I was just at the bookstore on Monday and found about 10 books to add to my Shelfari wishlist. You have just given me a doozy to add. The Harlem Renaissance Novels peak my interst for sure. Just started New York by Edward Rutheford and enjoying it from the get go.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

In addition to what Louise asks above, many places you can pay for the food to be catered by the restaurant but have your guests pay for their own bar tab. Congratulations and best wishes.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: legal bare breasts - 12 years ago
Just as we exited Central Park to go to the Met (with 20 13yr olds behind us) I almost bumped into a 20 something bare breasted girl having her photo taken by a tourist. She was posing with a fully clothed guy facing 5th Ave and looking very happy.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Moving to New York - 12 years ago
Victoria, it might help if you go to the search box here and type in "moving to NY". It is a FAQ and if you search ALL DATES you should be able to get a feel for the best way to approach a move to NYC. I agree with ieeee about contacting your schools student resource center. Also see if they have an online school paper to look for roommates or rentals. Best of luck to you anby Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: 2nd Avenue Sinatra! Construction Man Crooner - 12 years ago
I hope his mom is alive to have all her buttons pop off. How much fun she would be having watching all his fame. Love his smile, and of course his voice. I would pay to see the 2nda Avenue Sinatra in a club for sure. Ooooo, maybe you should hook him up with Miss Marjorie and see if he can sing with live music! Now that would be a grand Sunday at her place.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
