Re: Cab fare from LaGuardia to upper east side - 12 years ago
We use Carmel Car Service which advertises here. It was 28 bucks I think not counting tip. Our plane arrived 45 minutes early and we still had someone ready to pick us up 5 minutes after we walked out the door. We only had carry on so it was right from the plane into the car pretty much. That was a great surprise because I was ready to wait an hour. Best advice, wear something colorful or diby Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: The Patheway Home - 12 years ago
Thanks for the info KM. My nephew surprised us at my grandma's 90th birthday from Afghanistan. Timing was perfect. Hopefully he won't need this but it's good to know. Will share with his wife and mom. He did come home with a "tramatic brain injury"of some sort, the scar on his head looked pretty bad. God bless our soldiers, they go through more than we can imagine.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Take the bus up W.23rd to the Highline - Get off before the Highline at The Chelsea Hotel (see the lobby)and go into Doughnut Plant for the best donuts ever and a restroom straight out of Saturday Night Fever, lol! You can walk the rest of the way to the Highline. You may want to walk up 23rd on the way back and stop at Tequila Chito for cheap Margarita's and fairly good Mexican food.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Free jazz concert with Marjorie Elliott on the lawn at the Morris Jumel Mansion. Usually in August. Morris Jumel Mansion is worth a go to on its own.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Parents visiting NYC - 12 years ago
Take the bus to the Highline and get off at the Chelsea Hotel. The donut place next to it has the BEST donuts ever. Creme Brule, yum! The bathroom is a must see, and you have to be buzzed in. You can stop at Tequila Chitos on the way back for cheap margaritas, you will pass it on your way to the Highline after your donut stopby Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: we are happy to serve you cup - 12 years ago
Here is a link to purchase a ceramic cup It says exclusive to MoMa until June 2011, but I saw them at the City Store next to the Federal Bldg. Lots of fun things in that store.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: The High Line - 12 years ago
It was fabulous! What a perfect way to spend late afternoon and then drink a few margaritas. I plan on becoming a friend of the Highline. Do they plan a third section?by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Living on the upper east side - 12 years ago
Oracle knows the neighborhood well. I enjoy that neighborhood a lot when. You are right between the park, and the river which is nice to walk along. I was there on vacation last week and walked by Butterfield Market which made me homesick. You are also close to the Metropolitan Museum which is a nice getaway. Congrats on your book and on moving to NYC.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Emergency in NY - 12 years ago
yes, Little Prince no worries. I have hosted exchange students over the years all who were athletic, and many who were injury prone, . One I accused of wanting to visit every ER in the city, lol! All I ever needed was their insurance card and things were easy. If you need an ER (heaven forbid) you are seen on the basis of how serious your problem is. As for art - pick up a copy of Time Oby Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Book of Mormon tickets and Hotel - 12 years ago
I hope you have your tickets for The Book of Morman already. I saw that it is sold out, tickets going for as high as $900, and you can only get them via the Lottery. It looks like a lot of fun. Had no idea the guys who do South Park are involved with the writing.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Biking in NYC - 12 years ago
Denver has had a bike program for over a year and I love seeing the pretty red bikes zipping around. I love that I can walk across from my office, grab a bike and ride for 30 minutes free at lunch.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Maybe moving to Manhattan in a year or so. - 13 years ago
If you do need a cosigner they do not have to live locally. We cosigned for our former exchange student when he returned to the states to do an International Masters of Law at Georgetown for a year. We were in Denver.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Chumley's - 13 years ago
Sad it is not open yet. Would be perfect for what I did this past weekend with a bunch of folks - public reading of Jack Kerouac's On The Road: The Original Scroll, with all the jazz of the time playing in the background.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Nissan chosen the taxi of tomorrow - 13 years ago
I heard this on NPR this morning and I was so disheartened to hear they would not be wheelchair accesible. What a HUGE step backwards for a major city. I was a fan of Mr. B too, but this made me wonder where his brain was. We have several hybrid taxis in Denver. Even in a 24 hr city like NYC, I am pretty sure a taxi has down time. Otherwise the wear and tear would be horrific $$.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: New Years Eve - 13 years ago
Last year Bruno Mars played at the Renaissance in Times Square. It was $950 for 2 people. You might call them to see if there will be something similar this year. (212) 753-8841 Renaissance Others on this site will tell you to go to Central Park instead. That would be my choice over the ball.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
