Re: visiting in March - 13 years ago
Everything I do with my husband when we visit NYC is romantic. I would upgrade your neighborhood. Times Square is so boring. Really you only need to see it once and an hour there is more than enough time. The Upper East Side has plenty of hotels and it is so romantic to walk in a real neighborhood and feel like you are part of the city. It is also the neighborhood used in the movie You Gby Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Yep those undies were big news in Denver. I was patted down BEFORE the new guidelines were put into place at Sacramento in October. It was because I had on a billowy skirt I was told. I had no problem with it, rather be safe than sorry.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Thank you so much KM for sharing. I love the analogy of looking in your phone book. Growing up in CA we moved all the time, but we always landed in a block of United Nations. We had neighbors from everywhere around us, and I learned to expect to eat meals that were quite different than what my mom served when visiting friends or attending sleepovers. When I traveled to Japan I saw us througby Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: NYC Weather - 13 years ago
I can picture you and Lola watching the storm. They say we will get some moisture on Thursday. We have had 1.5" for the WHOLE season. I was chatting with a former exchange student last night who is living in midtown. She painted a pretty picture of softly falling snow last night. One more reason to be excited about our visit in June!by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Good areas for Musicians to live? How do I start? - 13 years ago
I would sublet first in a neighborhood I thoughtI wanted to be in. Get the feel and then sign on the long term dotted line. You want to be close to a laundrymat, grocery store, and subway.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

I wish you could send some of that to Denver. Record snowfalls in the mountains, but down here in the city - dry as a bone.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Call the bicycle shops or gift shops. I bought my son a very cool church key (bottle opener) made from a bike chain at a gift shop on Mackinac Island, but have since seen like items at indy bike shops. Best of luck. Both my kids are over 21 and only ride their bikes for transporation. They are a bit addicted to the culture. Here is one on Etsy - maybe have it overnighted? I typed in Bike Keby Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Good hotel for a WOW factor - 13 years ago
The Lucerne on the Upper West Side totally wowed me from the outside. You could not pick a better neighborhood either. We stayed a couple blks away on our last trip and loved the area. It's where You Got Mail was filmed and a dear friend showed us many of the sites from the movie. We saw a commercial being filmed on our first day, and Richard Belzer (Law & Order) having lunch at an outby Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Looking for restaurant for coffee and dessert date - 13 years ago
Cafe Roma has wonderful pastries and good coffee. It is one of my favorite places to go when I am in that part of the city. It is casual, wooden floors, huge cases full of Italian cookies and pasteries. Here is the outside and this photo could have been taken by me but wasn't.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Bowlmor Times Square! - 13 years ago
Sounds like the lads need to be in charge of our cocktails. Oracle and KM, that is what you need to check out for sure, how are the cocktails. That is what improves ones bowling score I believe.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Yes! You all check it out and see if it is something we should all do in June. Joe would have to be bar boy though, he hates to bowl. I love it.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Accomplice the show, a new way of experiencing NYC - 13 years ago
I think Joe's brother David and our sister-in-law Ruth are joining us for the end of our trip. Oracle has met them. They both are involved in community theatre in Delaware so it would be right up their alley too. By the way they have stayed at The Roosevelt and enjoyed it.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: So, you want to move to New York? - 13 years ago
Just found out my friend's daughter is now in NY all of 19 I think. I sent Jessica the article. It was very interesting, and yes I would still do it and support my kids if they wanted to do it. Though all the crap - cough - treasured items would have to be minimized for sure.by Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Happy Haloween - 13 years ago
I just opened your link and loved it!!! Thanks for posting. I did not read the behind the scenes but my thought was how the library did not call for more security or the police at the beginning. Sad, but fun is not your first thought anymore when seeing people hiding in sheets and showing up with weapons. It did make me laugh and though I saw one nervous lady on the video, glad everyoneby Salsa - Ask a New Yorker :
