Re: Driving - 17 years ago
Why would you even consider renting a car in NYC? It's easy to get around walking, taxi or subway....the roads are packed for driving in and parking is bad and expensive.by Richard - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Newark or JFK - 17 years ago
Either airport you can get the airtrain and then either the train from Newark or the Subway if from JFK. I've used both airports and don't have a preference, it just depends on the best deal I get on flights and which airport it is going to. Super shuttle just takes so long, it's a reasonable service, particularly if you are travelling alone, I've used them a few times, but yby Richard - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Do New Yorkers love Starbucks coffee? - 17 years ago
Thanks...that's worth knowing. Reminds me of a few years ago when an American friend came over from Chicago and we met up in London. She wanted the toilet (restroom) and I was wondering where we could go, then she saw a restaurant, which wasn't open for business but door was open for deliveries etc, and she just walked straight in and used their facilities! I was astounded, itby Richard - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Do New Yorkers love Starbucks coffee? - 17 years ago
I'm coming over to NYC next week, and one of the things that always gets me is finding a "restroom" (as you guys call it) - I'm ok if I'm around Times Sq as I go into the one in Virgin! I've also gone into a Starbucks and bought a coffee so I can use the restroom - sort of defeats the object though as after a coffee you want the restroom again within a hour!!! I recall last time I was there, there was a rather decent little mexican type place just a couple of blocks South of the Empire State Building, more a fast food type place but food cooked to order, went a couple of times and it was very good valueby Richard - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: How are you guys not all 300lbs!!??? - 17 years ago
Marea - they are Peanut butter M&M's (we have Peanut M&M's in the UK as well, I recall when they were called Treats and weren't different colours - but's that's before Mars decided to just be one global brand and Marathons in the UK became Snickers!) They are in an orange coloured wrapper.by Richard - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Newark Airport to Manhattan - 17 years ago
Thanks for that - I'll be arriving in Newark at approx 1.30pm on a Tuesday afternoon - my return flight is the following Monday at 8:30pm so I guess I will be hitting it at a busy time getting to the airport for 5:30pm. I might go earlier - always hate that hanging around after checking out of hotel - so might set off toairport at 2pm and enjoy a leisurely beer at the airport and some of theby Richard - Ask a New Yorker :

Noy sure I understand what you mean by charging $3 to "share" a sandwich - I know the sandwiches in NYC are huge but would I really want to share one?!by Richard - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: How are you guys not all 300lbs!!??? - 17 years ago
Oh the peanut butter M&M's are gorgeous! I contacted Mars in the UK to see if they had plans to sell them here and they said they didn't think there was demand as they weren't "suited to British tastes"! Yet I know loads of people who like them! I did think that the popularity of the limited edition Peanut Butter chunky KitKat might make them think again!by Richard - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Newark Airport to Manhattan - 17 years ago
I know what you mean Leigh - every time I've used them it's taken ages getting to hotel due to picking up around the airport. Going to the airport I've often thought we won't make it on time, on one occasion we must have passed a block from my hotel about 4 times! Last time I was going to La Guardia for a flight to Chicago whilst the rest of the bus were for JFK...he was alrby Richard - Ask a New Yorker :

Thanks David Sharing some info this evening! I'm staying in the Red Roof on W32 and 5th which is only a couple of blocks from there so I'll walk that distance - I know that area reasonably well - stayed in Hotel Penn beforeby Richard - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: NYC to Washington via train!! - 17 years ago
What happened to the other 17 questions?! It took about 4 hrs 30.....dependent on the time of day of course...we set off about 9am but most of the traffic at that time was coming into Manhattan as we headed out. Just checked and its $37 (maybe I got the cost wrong and it was equivalent of £25 at the time!) Depends how long you are going for - if you are just planning a day or so maybe not..by Richard - Ask a New Yorker :
Red Roof Inn - 17 years ago
Arriving for my 6th trip to NYC in a few weeks. I like to try different hotels so I'm in a different location for breakfast/bars etc (Although I do love The Ginger Man bar) Having seen reviews this time I plumped for the Red Roof on W32nd just a block or so from the Empire State Building. Anyone stayed there?by Richard - Ask a New Yorker :
Newark Airport to Manhattan - 17 years ago
Hi there Not been on here for a while. In 3 weeks I'll be making my 6th trip from the UK to NYC, got tickets for 2 Rangers hockey games and a Knicks basketball game. I'm flying into Newark and I notice on their website that there is an air train service to Penn Station - sounds ideal (I'll have 1 medium sized case) so wondered who else had used it and any details on the procby Richard - Ask a New Yorker :

Only a week to go! - 20 years ago
This time next week I'll be at Manchester Airport (UK) waiting for my flight to NY. Really looking forward to it - will be my 4th visit but for the first time I'll be able to take in a baseball game. Got tickets on the Friday for the Yankees against the Mariners - upper deck behind home plate, looks a great view from the pictures on the stadium plan. I'm staying at the Pennsylvaniaby Richard - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Sports merchandise stores - 20 years ago
Thanks - I'll check out Modells. Checked their website and they have everything so hopefully I'll find what I'm looking for. I'm not a basketball fan at all but I might end up with an order from a work colleague!by Richard - Ask a New Yorker :
Sports merchandise stores - 20 years ago
Hi - I'm coming over from the UK in 2 weeks for a few days. I'm a fan of NFL, NHL and baseball (will be taking a Yankees game in whilst in town). I know there are Yankees stores in Manhatten but what I'm looking for is merchandise for the 3 sports that isn't for the NY teams....are there any stores that stock, for instance, Chicago Blackhawks/Cubs gear? Is there a NFL store inby Richard - Ask a New Yorker :
