NFL "pop up" shop - april - 12 years ago
I've been reading that there will be an NFL "pop up" shop somewhere 8 blocks from radio city, end of april. I can't find any info that says exactly where it will be...anyone know? I have visitors coming then who want to see it.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Great Reasonable NY restaurants - 12 years ago
oh, here's another...Miranda in Williamsburg. it's sort of a mix of spanish and italian food, delicious. And it's really cute inside, staff was great, it was nice and quiet and not as "hip" as other places in williamsburg, but in a good way. The bill came to about $125 for three of us, without tip.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Great Reasonable NY restaurants - 12 years ago
another in sunnyside...the new Tapenade on queens blvd/44th. Well, they serve no Tapenade, which I thought was strange. Otherwise...you can tell they're new. the waitstaff is a little in need of practice, they were out of some things listed on the menu, little things were off. And, its still BYOB. But, the food was quite good. Same owners as the old bliss bistro which was on 46th/skillmby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Moving to NY - but where? - 12 years ago
if you will work near grand central, you could try sunnyside or astoria in queens, both good neighborhoods in your price range and easy to get to grand central. I live in sunnyside and once I'm on the 7 train, it's just about 10 minutes to grand central. no need for a car!by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: need to take my new boss to lunch around penn station - 12 years ago
so, we rescheduled and made it today to lugo caffe...it was quite good, and the perfect place to meet my new boss in. She's great, by the way I had minestrone and scallops, both very good. thanks oracle!by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Doorman Christmas gifts - 12 years ago
Yikes, 32 people! you'll go broke. Have you asked your neighbors what they do? You obviously can't be expected to give 32 people a cash gift.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
eyeglasses - 12 years ago
In case anyone is looking for new glasses, at a really affordable price... check out Warby Parker, You can get a complete pair of good looking glasses for $95. They do this mail-order thing, where you can look on their site and have five pairs of frames sent to you to try on and then you send them back for free. Or, they have 2 locations here in NYC where you can go to look around yourself iby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

need to take my new boss to lunch around penn station - 12 years ago
I have to take my new boss to lunch on Thursday, and she's coming into Penn station and wants to remain reasonably close by to eat. Where on earth can I take her for a halfway decent lunch around penn station? I have a reservation at Becco, but that's kind of a walk and it's supposed to rain on thursday I think. Ideas? Not too expensive, but not a sandwhich shop either.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Great Reasonable NY restaurants - 12 years ago
ok, while I'm going on about restaurants in sunnyside...let me tell you about a new one that opened called The Dog and Duck which recently opened, and which isn't so great. I read all of the reviews and they are so mixed, that I was skeptical trying this place out last night, but decided to go anyway. My husband and I walked in and were pleasantly surprised at the transformation of thby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Long Island City - 12 years ago
Long Island City and Sunnyside have changed quite a bit since this thread was going, in 2007! Long Island City is full of fun places to visit, lots of good restaurants and such. We tried one called El Ay Si not too long ago and loved it.47-38 vernon blvd, 7 train to vernon jackson.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Great Reasonable NY restaurants - 12 years ago
if you can make it just a bit outside of manhattan, to sunnyside in queens, there's a new-ish restaurant here that's really quite good called Salt and Fat, on Queens Blvd and about 41st St (7 train to 40th St). It's sort of small-plates so you order a few things, and everything I've tasted has been great, especially the "crack and cheese", a mac and cheese dish thatby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Ask a New York Theater Critic - 12 years ago
I agree about the Coen piece, the first one. The Elaine May one was my favorite, but didn't even love that. I thought it was going to be so good, too...disappointment, expensive disappointment.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Ask a New York Theater Critic - 12 years ago
alright, I'm no "theater critic" and this isn't about spiderman...but I saw "relatively speaking" the other night and really didn't think it was that great. Just putting this up in case anyone is thinking of seeing it.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Movie and dinner - 12 years ago
we went to nitehawk cinema in williamsburg, brooklyn last night, and I must say it was pretty cool. the way they operate, bringing you (really good) food during the movie doesn't disturb anything. the theaters are comfortable, and they have really good movies playing there. even the stuff they show on screen while you are waiting for the movie to start is cool, not the usual stuff you seeby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: New York with Teenagers - 12 years ago
I think Ellis Island is a good idea for teenagers...not so much little kids, but I think teens could find it interesting. I was just there yesterday and you can do this museum relatively quickly with the audio tour, in about an hour. It's pretty interesting. I think a lot of people skip this - when they do the cruise to liberty island, they just skip ellis island and go back to battery paby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

european hairdryer - 13 years ago
does anyone know if there is a shop in new york where I could buy a hairdryer that works in Europe, particularly France? I know about adapters and all that, I'm looking for a hairdryer I could just take and plug in over there without any adapters or anything. Or if not a shop, maybe you have one I could buy?? Re: Ethnic Eats in Queens - 13 years ago
ok, French isn't exactly "ethnic", but I'm posting it here anyway. Last night we tried a French restaurant in Astoria called Pomme Cafe, on Broadway, and I must say it was very good. I'll definately go back. Friendly service, good atmosphere, great food (esp beef bourguignon) and reasonable prices.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Club 21 and Manhattan Bars - 13 years ago
I went to the 21 club for dinner last night, my first visit there. I went with the "upstairs at 21" menu...$73 prix fixe with lots of options, rather than the $35 prix fixe offered for restaurant week which didn't have what I really wanted to eat. Summary: For the price we paid for dinner, I would rather go to the Four Seasons any day. I would not return to the 21 Club, nor woulby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
