What makes taxis impractical from Newark is that New York's yellow taxis aren't allowed to pick up fares there, and New Jersey taxis are very expensive. It'll cost $70+ to Manhattan. The rail connection is easy -- Airtrain to NJ Transit to Penn Station, but it's not convenient either since your hotel is on the east side and Penn Station is on the west side.

Congratulations! It's a great time to visit. Just be prepared for huge crowds wherever you go. The best way to see the holiday store windows is late in the evening, after 10 p.m. (I think they stay lit until around 11). Favorite Fifth Avenue store windows are Lord & Taylor (38th St.), Bergdorf Goodman (58th St.), Tiffany's (57th St.). And Saks Fifth Avenue's (50th St.) o

It sounds like you don't enjoy playing tour guide at all. So don't do it! If you've got friends and family coming to New York, maybe you can offer advice and directions, and leave the tour guide job to professionals.

Did anyone catch Jon Stewart's hysterical New York v. Chicago pizza rant yesterday?
It's a popular topic, here's an older one.
I love how pizza brings out his inner Italian!

There's ice hockey. The Rangers are playing the Devils on 10/19. They're playing in New Jersey, which is reasonably easy to get to, but if you've been traveling all day, it's probably too much for your first night. The Devils are playing the Canucks on 10/24, that might be better for you.
And football. The New York Giants play the Minnesota Vikings on 10/21. Your best

You're exactly right about the paperwork. You only need to find an officiant. I can recommend Rev. Leslie. I was at a Central Park wedding where he officiated. It was a lovely ceremony.

I don't know anything about the festival, but downtown Brooklyn is safe, and I'm sure there will be lots of people heading back to Manhattan by subway. Most of us don't have cars here, and use the subway all night safely. Don't worry.
I'd be happy to give you directions, but the UWS is a big area. Which hotel are you staying at?

Where are you seeing apartment listings? The reason I ask is that I don\'t know of any landlord who will rent an apartment without the tenant being here first. And then, they require your bank information, and you must prove that you earn 40x the monthly rent in annual income.
I\'m sure you\'ll find hundreds of listings, but how will you know they\'re legitimate? There

Some of these locations are accessible by subway and would be convenient from Park Slope:
* New York Methodist: 506 6th Street, Brooklyn - (Subway stop is 7th Ave. on the F/G lines)
* Wyckoff Heights: 374 Stockholm Street, Brooklyn (Subway stop DeKalb Ave. on the L line) -- This trip takes about 45-60 minutes and involves one transfer.
* Coney Island Hospital: 2601 Ocean Parkway, Broo

It would be easier to offer help if you post the street addresses of the hospitals. Park Slope is a very desirable neighborhood, but I don\'t think it\'s likely to find an apartment there for your budget.

I don\'t know the locations of all those hospitals, but I have a feeling there isn\'t any one location that would be convenient to all of them.
There are a lot of apartment listings on sites like craigslist, but I advise you to be careful, as many are scams. Don\'t send money in advance to anyone!
I would think a good source of information would be staff at the hospitals. T

I have a friend who makes up fun drinking tours. One was to google a list of the best chocolate shops, go to each one to buy one great piece of chocolate, then find the nearest bar to it, then move on to the next one, and keep on until you reach your limit. Another was the famous Gitface tour. We started at the Gingerman, moved on to a bar that started with I, then T, etc. I don\'t remem

I don\'t know the answer to your question, but as I recall, only one witness\'s signature is required. If that\'s the case, just have your other witness sign. If your friend does by chance see your mother\'s name, and if she says something, you could just act surprised. After all, it\'s a professional relationship she has with your mother. I doubt your mother discusse

Whatever you do, avoid the shared-ride shuttles (Go Airlink and Super Shuttle), which are both really terrible. Also avoid the touts who approach you at the airport offering rides. If you take a taxi, only go to the official yellow taxi stand. It's a flat fare of $52 plus tip and toll, or about $65.
But I recommend you take the subway instead. JFK is very convenient for public transpo
