Re: Has anyone stayed at "Stay the night" B&B on Carnegie Hill ( Upper East side)? - 19 years ago
Carnegie Hill is a lovely area. It's a wealthy residential area right off Central Park, so you're right near the uptown museums -- The Museum of the City of New York, el Museo del Barrio, the Cooper-Hewitt, Guggenheim, Jewish Museum, and of course the Metropolitan. Right across the street from el Museo del Barrio and the Museum of the City of New York is the entrance to the Conservatoby Oracle - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: HELP PLEASE!!Family from Australia need advice on accom. and things to do - 19 years ago
For accommodations, take a look at A Hospitality Company (www.ahospitalitycompany.com). They have 100+ furnished apartments all over Manhattan. A friend has used them and had a great 2-bedroom apt. in a doorman bldg. on Park Ave. With kids it's a great idea so you won't have to eat every meal out. One of this forum's regulars, Karen, loves Jack & Judy's B&B (sheby Oracle - Ask a New Yorker :

My only thought is for you to contact local temples. I can't think of another location where you'd be allowed to have a ceremony with fire.by Oracle - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Water Fall, Little Garden - 19 years ago
That's Paley Park, the first of the "vest pocket" parks. There's another behind 1221 6th Ave., beween 48th-49th Sts. and between 6th-7th Aves. Across 49th Street from there is another, larger vest pocket park, nicely landscaped but no waterfall.by Oracle - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: best hotels...price doesnt matter! - 19 years ago
Allen, I think that must be the Stanhope Museum, across from the Metropolitan Museum. Krissi, I agree about W Hotels, they're very nice. I don't stay in enough hotels to really know the difference between 3- and 4-star hotels. So I don't know if the W or Westin would be regarded as highly as, say, the St. Regis or Peninsula. I know when you check into the St. Regis you get yoby Oracle - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: best hotels...price doesnt matter! - 19 years ago
The Waldorf and the Plaza (which is about to close anyway) are tattered relics in need of serious renovating. Top hotels would be the St. Regis, Peninsula, Four Seasons, Trump International, Mandarin Oriental, Pierre, Sherry-Netherland, The Mark, Plaza Athenee. I find the reviews on www.tripadvisor.com to be reliable.by Oracle - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Billy Crystal's One Man Show - 19 years ago
I was lucky enough to see Billy Crystal's "700 Sundays," and it was phenomenal! He's due to close on May 21 though. By the way, it's ON Broadway! Unfortunately, it's been the hottest ticket in town, impossible to get. I wouldn't be surprised if it's been filmed for HBO though.by Oracle - Ask a New Yorker :

Yes, There Are Apartments Out There for $1,000 By DENNIS HEVESI The exposed red-brick walls of the studio apartment in the five-story, corniced limestone town house on West 145th Street in Harlem are delicately muted by feathery white paint strokes. The newly finished hardwood floors glisten, as do the stainless-steel kitchenette and its marble countertops. And when the apartment's curby Oracle - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Ribbon - 19 years ago
Within the garment district you'll find lots of trimmings stores. I believe the biggest is M&J Trimmings, it's on 6th Ave. at about 36th Street. They have a huge selection of ribbons. I can't help you with the cellophane, perhaps a baking supply store?by Oracle - Ask a New Yorker :

Ducks are year-round in the park. I haven't seen the swans recently, so I assume they're not fond of our winter. Not sure though.by Oracle - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: hotel choice - 19 years ago
www.tripadvisor.com is an excellent source of hotel reviews, written by folks who've actually stayed at the hotels. Most New Yorkers can offer comments on the neighborhood, but few of us get to see guest rooms.by Oracle - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Wheelchair access in NYC - 19 years ago
You should contact them not just to confirm plans with your Greeter. I was thinking that, since they have an Access Program, they would have information and listings of wheelchair-accessible places.by Oracle - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Grand Central Station - 19 years ago
I'm not crazy about the Oyster Bar. But the whispering wall is totally cool. I'd recommend Cipriani's -- the view is great, overlooking the craziness of the main terminal. You should go have a look at the Campbell Apt., just because it's so interesting. It is usually way too crowded though, and of course it has no view.by Oracle - Ask a New Yorker :

My dear friend Sylvia has twin 12-year-old boys. I think in a couple of years I'm going to suggest she send them to you guys for a while. You really know how to raise kids!!! You know, I hadn't realized how you spelled Marck until now. Gotta be a little different, eh? I'm embarrassed how bad I am at posting photos. Jen, your pictures are fabulous! Thanks for taking the time to post them all. I really promise to post mine, even though they aren't nearly as good (or plentiful!). I did manage to get a couple of Gates photos from the 7th floor ladies room at Bergdorf's on Saturday... great view! Re: Hustle and Bustle of NYC - 19 years ago
A studio apartment is just one room that you live and sleep in, and a separate bathroom. Some studios have a separate kitchen, but I've seen some studios that didn't. One friend had a little one-piece unit with a mini-fridge, a teeny sink and two burners that sat in a corner of her studio, and another friend's kitchen was a converted coat closet, with a hot plate on a shelf suspeby Oracle - Ask a New Yorker :
