Re: Dining alone in New York - 17 years ago
Interesting....Apparently, we were in the "lounge" at Del Posto. There were 6 of us and I was told we were in the "less expensive" section. Even so, my entre was still the most expensive I've ever purchased ($46). But I had no choice in the matter. The person who arranged the dinner wanted the "sampler" choice and that particular selection had to be purchasedby jeans - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Safety on the Subway -- Please Read!!!!! - 17 years ago
How frightening for you...I'm glad it all worked out. You didn't mention your daughter's age. This experience might prompt other visitors traveling with children...or adults...to discuss a plan of action should they become separated on the trains as you did. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.by jeans - Ask a New Yorker :

Yes...SHARE! I spent the entire flight home reading a visitor's magazine in the seat pocket and making a list of things to do when I return (hopefully in February...maybe for 2-3 weeks if I can combine work & play). A former client has offered her apt. while she is gone. I have immensely enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of this board. It is a refreshing change from the often-time raby jeans - Ask a New Yorker :

Regarding Carnegie Deli & pastrami, I say "Hell, Yeah!" Also worth a good declaration is Katz' Deli. Come hungry...very, very hungry. I must have almost tripped over Grimladi's, yet I missed it...Dang.by jeans - Ask a New Yorker :

Tim...I think that for many, the first sight of the skyline literally takes your breath away. I remember it did for me. Because the first site is usually from a great distance,(I landed in Newark the first time) it looms on the horizon seeming to hold the promise of a host of adventures & mysteries....of its history, its people, its restaraunts, theatre, celebrities,.....I could go on &by jeans - Ask a New Yorker :

One of the last episode outdoor scenes was filmed in front of Napoleons Tomb. I know that location. In the left part of the scene is the curb where I crashed a Segway and got dumped in the gutter. I would not necessarily recommend the Segway tours.by jeans - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: best NY cheesecakes? - 17 years ago
Take a buddy or two and order ONE piece of cheescake at Carnegie Deli. 7th & 55th. It's fun looking at all the pictures on the wall...hundreds of them. But I have to say that it wasn't better than my all-time favorite - Fudge Brownie Cheesecake from The Incredible Cheescake Co. right here in San Diego. Thank you for your kind words. I know the value for others in posting a trip report (for lurkers and regular posters alike"). It is repayment for the value I have received from others....and it gives me a chance to relive it. An afterthought. Re: From JFK Airport to Central Park at 11pm - 17 years ago
Being "thrifty" (I'd rather save my money for culinary splurges), I took public transportation into the city from JFK. I had not taken into consideration hauling my very heavy suitcase up & down the subway stairs. Inconvenience and the your being tired after a long flight are more an factor than safety at that hour, I would think.by jeans - Ask a New Yorker :

I just want to take a few moments and thank everyone for their help while I was getting ready for my trip to NYC. I'm home now and recovering from the miles I logged pounding the pavement....and all the food I ate to fuel me... Highlights: Joan Rivers at The Cutting Room. Keep your eye out for paparazzi (sp?)....they are always stalking someone. Last Sunday, my sister came back to the hotel room from shopping (I had to take a break!) saying there was something going on across the street at the Directors Guild Theatre. They'd put out a red carpet and there was a bunch of photogs. We grabbed our cameras and went down to check it out. A crowd was startingby jeans - Ask a New Yorker :

What's the trendy drink in the City right now? - 17 years ago
I'm a wine or margarita girl. I've tried Cosmopolitans...they're OK...kinda sweet. But I know how quickly trends fade from the scene...I fear that ordering one would ID me as a tourist who watches SATC reruns (Guilty). What's the new drink on the scene?by jeans - Ask a New Yorker :

Salsa, You are quite welcome! It comes from a book that was given to me 30 years ago this summer. "I Care About Your Happiness" Quotations from the Love Letters of Kahlil Gibran and Mary Haskell. Many of them are quite moving....no doubt written with no expectation of them ever being made public. They span from 1908 to 1924.by jeans - Ask a New Yorker :

That is TOO funny! I just did a morning show like that for the first time...they are HECTIC! I was so nervous I couldn't remember a thing I said afterwards. Chowhounds!!!! Perfect...what a hoot! I now have a new discussion board where I will *way* too much time. Maybe I could get a Baja_Chowhound site going. Your mention of the arepa lady reminded me of Carmelita in her green van selling tamales at the north edge of the Viscaino Desert off Mexico Hwy 1. Hi Folks....I'm so glad to have found this board...now I know what the Newbies feel like who come to the board I have been hanging out at for 8 years (About Baja) I've checked out the other forums for the different neighborhoods, but they don't seem to be as current...this is the one that has all the action, so I'll post here. I confess...I'm a hard core foodie.by jeans - Ask a New Yorker :
