Re: Help please!! South African travelling 1st time to New York - 14 years ago
The price of drinks vary, it depends on where and what you're drinking but always remember to tip, $1 per drink is considered the minimum. Also remember a 20% tip is expected for meals and tax is added also. Always check your bill though as some restaurants add the 20% especially in tourist areas.by Marea - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Woodbury Common Outlet Mall - 14 years ago
Don't worry about Woodbury Common, I've been there and it's nothing great, I couldn't imagine any reason to stay overnight, even if you could find anywhere to stay near it, which is probably unlikely. To take 2 children with you in cold weather would also be madness. Stay in the city and enjoy it, 5 days will fly by so fast. Macys have great sales, and if you go to their viby Marea - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: 'Financial district' - nightlife???? - 14 years ago
Yes Oracle, a unit is an apartment in Sydney speak. Dakota take note of what Oracle says there are a lot of scams out there. Also I wouldn't stay in the Financial District, it is incredibly quiet at night and also at weekends the place is dead. Sydney's financial area is much more lively at night and weekends than New York's. BTW I'm from Sydney but have lived in New Yorkby Marea - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Mobile Phones - 14 years ago
I have the same as Oracle, we have 2 and still keep them topped up. I think AT&T have an option for international calls. I can't remember if we had that or not, will test them out when we get back to NY in June.by Marea - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: VINTAGE NYC TAXI - 14 years ago
I love the yellow cabs in NYC it is so easy to spot them in traffic, in Sydney most of them are white which makes it really hard to see them. I'm now in Taipei and they are all yellow here as well, so good.by Marea - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: socializing within condo/co-op - 14 years ago
I found most of the time it was a nod, or a bit of a chat in the lift or the foyer. We did have social gatherings in both the buildings we lived in and were invited to parties etc but after a number of years are only still in contact with two of our previous neighbours but that may be because we left the country.by Marea - Ask a New Yorker :

We were paying $6000 a month for a 2 bedroom in midtown/Murray Hill area a little over a year ago, I would think UES would be a lot more than $4500by Marea - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Woodbury Premium Outlet Mall - 14 years ago
Woodbury Common is something that takes most of a day, it is around a 45-55 minute bus ride each way and there are a lot of outlets over a large area. Also, I'm not sure but I think they close around 5 or 6 pm.by Marea - Ask a New Yorker :

I used to watch Flipper as well. I think Skippy was modeled on Flipper. A young boy with his pet, an older brother and a single father who is a ranger.by Marea - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Kangaroo tries to drown dog - 14 years ago
I should have added that the male kangaroos are the most dangerous and aggressive. Also Skippy the Bush Kangaroo was a much loved character on television in the early 70s. He was like a marsupial Lassie, rescuing Timmy from the well etc. I have seen reruns even in recent years on Japanese and Korean television dubbed in the local language, it's very amusing. I'm sure it still pops uby Marea - Ask a New Yorker :
