Re: Burberry umbrella knockoff? Where to buy? - 18 years ago
ok, this past weekend I had some out-of-towners visiting who wanted to see all this knock-off stuff. There are chinese women standing on the street corners sort of quietly asking passers by if they want designer handbags. My tourist friends took the bait. I went with them. They took us into basements of old buildings (on Cortlandt Alley, off of Canal Street, just south of Walker St) where theby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Cabs take credit cards? - 18 years ago
if you happen to get one that takes credit cards, tell them right away that you intend to pay with a credit card, not at the end of your ride. If they push the button to end the ride and you have not told them you will pay with a credit card, it's too late.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: NYC - 18 years ago
copied from a previous post about the garment district: the garment district is an area in midtown around 34th st to about 40th st or so, from sixth ave and west from there. It is mainly wholesale. I am copying previous posts about the garment district below: The garment district is not a shopping area! The big manufacturers and designers have offices and showrooms, but you can't buyby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: december stay - 18 years ago
You want an apartment?? Not a hotel room, right? What's your budget per night? You could always look on Craigslist for sublets during the days you will be in town. see you could post something there saying what you are looking for exactly. Also see the "A List" on the home page of this site, which will give budget hotel recommendations.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: business lunch downtown - 18 years ago
That's exactly the place I was going to mention. There's also a Heartland Brewery and some other places like that around the South Street Seaport, which is close to the area you specified. Also, west of Broadway and north a bit, there are places like Il Giglio at 81 Warren Street or Fresh on Reade St.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Neighbourhoods & Musicstores - 19 years ago
If you're interested in guitars, the mecca is Sam Ash at 160 W. 48th Street. There's also a Guitar Center at 25 W. 14th, but Sam Ash is the classic NYC music store.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Drink prices and weather. - 19 years ago
the weather at the end of april is usually getting pretty nice, still could have some rain, but generally should be pleasant. Probably warm enough some days that you can go without a jacket even, or maybe only a light one. Nights can still be chilly. It's one of those in-betweeen times when you have to pack everything! Drinks can get expensive at certain places. I've paid $14 for aby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
