Re: What's the vibe in Williamsburg - 17 years ago
I lived at the lorimer st stop on the L train for several years. In my opinion, it is way TOO "hip" now, like I kinda wanna puke when I go there now, because everybody is so "cool". I moved away from there to Queens about a year ago. In any case, it is kid friendly, and there are tons of good, cheap restaurants. McCarren Park is right there, which is quite a nice park, andby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Top 4 restaurants??? - 17 years ago
Tao, on 58th St between Park and Madison. this would be a "trendy" place to go. It is Asian food, thai, japanese, chinese. I've been there only once, but it was quite good. definately make a reservation (and ask if you can be seated upstairs)by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: TailoredTours.com: What do you think? - 17 years ago
I really like your site. I think you have a great idea, and for $3, it's a great deal for someone visiting the city. people always ask about this kind of thing on this site, so I'm sure others will like it too.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: TAXES - 17 years ago
this link is helpful also google for suze orman and look at what she has to say. basically, I take nearly 50% off of my salary to come up with take home pay (that's after taxes, 401K contribution, health insurance payments, all that stuff)by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Buying Diamonds/engagement ring in NYC - 17 years ago
when I had these loose diamonds I wanted made into a ring, I had them appraised and "mapped" out first (get a certificate which identifies your individual diamond). I brought the exact measurements of the diamonds to the jeweler and had him make the setting, but I did not leave the diamonds, because of the possibility of them switching the diamond either for a different diamond, or aby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Best deli for a Pastrami sandwich? - 17 years ago
wow, I had no idea you could put a video in like that. Katz'Deli is of course the best for pastrami. I was at Ben's last night, see above, and I thought it was OK. I'm not complaining about it, not raving about it. It was good. Prefer Katz. The knicks game was fun, even though they lost by one point in the last half-second of the game.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Pretzels - 17 years ago
the pretzels from those stands on the street are totally gross. I like the ones from Auntie Anne's, which you usually find only in a mall or an airport.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Best deli for a Pastrami sandwich? - 17 years ago
I am going to Ben's Kosher Delicatessen tomorrow night, before the knicks game. It's right by madison square garden and not far at all from the empire state building. I'm sure I will order pastrami, and I'll let you know I'm going to my first knicks game tomorrow and I have really good seats and I'm excited! I have to take a bunch of work people, and KM can'by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

wow, I'm impressed with your good memory, Salsa! We went out to dinner last night to Tao, on 58th St between Park and Madison. It was pretty good. kind of a "scene", but good. it was really crowded, but I think we got the best table in the whole restaurant.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Italian, NY Pizza & Chinese - 17 years ago
for pizza, most slices you find are pretty good, they're all over. or, try Lombardi's on spring st or John's on bleecker or in midtown. see: Italian: do a search of this forum. lots of suggestions, mostly pointing you away from little italy, actually. I've had my eye on this place called BAbbo by washington square park on waverly pl, looks really good. any opinionby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: moving to nyc - 17 years ago
we recently got a one bedroom in sunnyside, queens for about that much. take a look at craigslist in the real estate section at queens. Jackson heights, astoria, sunnyside, woodside. you will be able to get something for that, no problem. I love this neighborhood, by the way. it's a good place to look.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Queens to Manhattan via subway - 17 years ago
we looked at a place in ridgewood, awhile back. there are sketchy parts, and better parts. I'm not an expert on the area by any means. I think we were looking at a place on george st, would have taken the L train to Halsey st and walked about 7 min to the apartment we looked at.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Restaurant at rockefeller center - 17 years ago
there is a restaurant that overlooks the ice skating rink, but I don't think you would have a good view of the tree itself from this restaurant. I don't know where all of the singers and the whole show is EXACTLY located, but the restaurant wouldn't afford a good view of the tree. It's called the rock center cafe, here is some more info :by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Les Halles - 17 years ago
I've only been to the one downtown, for lunch. It gets quite crowded, and I would recommend a reservation. It's good food. In the area it is in downtown (John St?), there's not a whole lot of choices, so it's a good place for that area. I like their fois gras appetizer.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Red, remind me why Queens towns are named...? - 17 years ago
I found this discussion on the subject, but I'd still like to hear what Red has to say my mail often says "long island city, ny" instead of "sunnyside, ny". according to info on that page with the link above, apparently there are 4 large areas of queens, or the post office goes with 4 areas.
