laney, what is your budget, and what sort of apartment are you looking for? Just curious. what area??by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: broker troubles - 17 years ago
why should you only look in one area? I'd say that you have to look out for yourself, and if this person is not showing you what you want, by all means ask another broker to show you some other places. This guy may be very very nice, but he is looking out for himself, just as you should look our for yourself and do what is right for you.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Best place to buy NYPD apparel? - 17 years ago
there is a place called Eisner Brothers, at 75 Essex St, just south of Delancey St. Take the F train to Delancey, and it is right there. Here is a link to their website:by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Sarah Jessica Parker - 17 years ago
my husband (KM) sees celebrities around all the time. He goes right up to them and introduces himself, always. Now, my husband is sort of an unusual character, and somehow he does this tactfully (as tactfully as possible) and they don't *seem* to mind. He feels that he is paying them a compliment by doing this. When he saw Sarah Jessica Parker in Daffy's (see above), he did go to heby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Designer Sample Sales - 17 years ago
I went to a diane von furstenburg sample sale today. What madness! I haven't been to a really crazy sample sale in awhile. It is still on, at 29th St and Fifth Ave. I got there at 10:00 and waited in line for 25 min just to get in. Then, it was packed. They had tons and tons of good stuff though. It was a madhouse. To try something on, I waited again for about 20-25 min. You are letby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: what should I do with my german friends when they come? - 17 years ago
thanks Oracle. I hope we can avoid the empire state buiding. I don't really want to do that. one day I will do this: get out of the train (we take the 7 into the city) at grand central and have a look around here. Tours are out because I don't want to have to translate everything. Take the 6 train to 23rd St, get out. Walk around Madison Sq Park, see that area. Continue waby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

what should I do with my german friends when they come? - 17 years ago
hi all, a couple people I know from Germany are coming to visit in October. I have to keep them busy for 4 full days. They speak absolutely no english, they are about 55-60 years old, this will be their first airplane trip in their lives, and they are going to be totally overwhelmed by New York City. I was thinking of definately doing one of those bus rides around the city where they can putby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Drive or not in new york city - 17 years ago
it is absolutely a bad idea to plan on driving around from destination to destination in new york. traffic is horrible, there is no parking except in garages where you pay $10 per hour, and it is soooo much easier to take the subway and/or bus around town. do not plan on driving in new york city. I've lived here 8 years and drove in the city one time. I don't ever want to do it agaiby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Windsor Terrace - 17 years ago
I live in sunnyside and I like it. it is convenient to the city, safe, affordable. I looked at places in kensington, and I thought the area was nice, although I felt a little "far out" and I felt like I'd want a car if I lived there. I felt a little like I was back home, in Wisconsin. There were free-standing houses with wrap-around porches and driveways and stuff like that. Dby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: commute stories??? - 18 years ago
I did something new today. Getting to work was no big deal, took a car service for $15. But on the way home, I walked over to E. 34th St and FDR drive and took a water taxi over to Long Island City for $5. From there, I walked to the pulaski bridge and over that to greenpoint, and from there it was about a 40 minute walk to my apartment. 90-95 minutes in all. Wasn't so bad, but it was cby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Best Places to Live in New York City for the first time - 18 years ago

Re: From London to New York: accommodation questions - 18 years ago
I have no idea what a floor through apartment is. You might want to initially sublet a place for a little while until you have had the chance to look around and find out where you want to live...which neighborhood, etc. For $2500 a month you should be able to find a nice place. Brooklyn has many great neighborhoods. "Yards" are a little hard to come by, but not out of the questby Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: "Save the lower east side" t-shirts - 18 years ago
I walked by a place today, on E Houston between Orchard St and First Ave that had tons of Lower East Side T shirts. I don't know if they have this one in particular, but they had lots of LES stuff. It's on the south side of the street, just east of the futon store.by Kelly - Ask a New Yorker :
