Vanessa hit the nail on the head with a great answer to all of the "Is it safe..." questions on this site.

Hi i just got a job over there by e 114 and park ave. The subway is on e116 and lexington. I just want to know how safe is that area walking back to the subway at night? I am originally from ny but grew up in long island. Certain parts of long island i wouldnt walk in at night. Im just not familiar with this part of harlem and just wanted to know if i would be ok walking to the subway at night?

I must agree with vanessa. when you act and appear scared you become a target. And that holds true in any neighborhood in NYC. crime stats are available for every precinct in the city. Take a look and you may be surprised. NYC is one of the most segregated cities in the country, and unfortunately based upon the questions in this forum, it appears it will remain so.

Hey
I know this question has been asked umpteen number of times. I am an international female in 20s and have selected a room at W 116th and Manhattan Avenue, amazing room but a lot of my seniors have suggested me not to stay there. I will have to cross the Morningside Park to go to Columbia, a lot of times at night also.
Also I have been told a lot of homeless people gather near park at nights, which can be dangerous.
So the million dollar question comes again - Should I take the place? Is it safe?
