On one of the first nice Spring days of 2006, I introduced myself to Kelsey, who was in the park busy on her computer, and she asked me to go away and come back in five minutes. She wanted to see if Ask a New Yorker was legit. We passed the test.
Ask a New Yorker: Hi, so Kelsey what do you?

Kelsey: I’m a student at The Fashion Institute of Technology.

Ask a New Yorker: What are you looking at on your computer?

Kelsey: I’m downloading music.

Ask a New Yorker: What are you downloading?

Kelsey: A bunch of different songs. I’m downloading a song by Catalyst right now.

Ask a New Yorker: What part of the city do you live in?

Kelsey: I live in Chelsea.

Ask a New Yorker: Tell us about your neighborhood.

Kelsey: It’s not the greatest neighborhood. I like the Upper East Side better personally, but who doesn’t?

Ask a New Yorker: How long have you lived in the city?

Kelsey: This is my first year here from Houston, Texas

Ask a New Yorker: What’s the strangest thing you’ve seen so far since living here?

Kelsey: A man peeing on the street.

Ask a New Yorker: Have you peed on the street yet?

Kelsey: No, and I have no plans to.

Ask a New Yorker: So who do you most identify with, designer-wise, in the fashion world?

Kelsey: Oh gosh, that’s a hard one.,.um, as far as designers go I really like Diane von Furstenberg. She’s really simplistic. I like her wrap dresses.

Ask a New Yorker: And your style, how would you describe it?

Kelsey: I don’t want to say eclectic, because its a cliché word, but I wear what I like and if it came from Wal-Mart and I like it I’m still going to wear it, or if it’s a thousand dollar shirt and I like it I’m going to wear it. It’s what I feel good in and what makes me feel cute. I like black, as most New Yorkers do.

Ask a New Yorker: What’s another talent of yours?

Kelsey: I was a figure skater for seven years, and when I quit I started teaching, so during the summer I coached students.

Ask a New Yorker: What kind of technical moves on the ice where you doing?

Kelsey: I did plenty of double axels and triple sauls.

Ask a New Yorker: What else is going on?

Kelsey: It’s my birthday on Monday. I’ll be 19. I think we’re going to Serendipity for dinner. I love that restaurant. They’ve got the best hamburgers of anywhere in the city. And tonight we’re going to go to Lucky Chengs, the drag queen karaoke bar.

Ask a New Yorker: Well, thank you Kelsey for talking with us and Happy Birthday!!
