Re: safe? - 18 years ago
This is only one short block from Central Park West and is not Harlem but Manhattan Valley. It is safe and there are subway stops on 103rd and 110th and CPW.by nyc10025 - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Outlet/bargain shopping in NYC - 18 years ago
The best place to get designer and name brand items at a discount is Woodbury Common but it is about an hour north of NYC and costs about $35 by bus. You will need a good part of one day to shop there but since you have 11 days it may be worth while for you. See link:by nyc10025 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Cold weather - 18 years ago
Most houses are built here so that the water pipes are insulated and/or not near an outside wall. Freezing pipes can be a problem if the heat is off for an extended period and this can happen from extended power outages from downed power lines outside of the City.by nyc10025 - Ask a New Yorker :

I don't know the name of the restaurant (or if it was an actual restaurant) but most restaurants in Little Italy are tourist traps with mediocre food food. There are many other much better less expensive Italian restaurants in NYC. It will take you about 45 minutes to walk from 31 Street to Central Park. I would be hesitant about going to Harlem at night.by nyc10025 - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Radiators - 18 years ago
Most radiators are either on or off. If you turn it clockwise until it stops, you will shut it off (no steam will go through the radiator)--turn it counterclockwise to turn it back on. The reason it makes that clanging noise is because not all the water(from the steam) is draining off in the radiator(s) or pipes when the steam in the building shuts off. When the steam comes up again and hits theby nyc10025 - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Having a baby in a 1-bedroom in Manhattan - 18 years ago
For the first few months, at least, the baby should be in your room because you have to know if there is a problem or he/she has to be fed. You need to wake up when the baby is crying.by nyc10025 - Ask a New Yorker :

Karen, there are some "young peoples" bars on the UWS but of course they would be foreign to me. I'll ask my son. There are the usual areas, Meatpacking, Chelsea, the Village (east and west) etc. Do they want clubs?by nyc10025 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: One more question about condo/coop package - 18 years ago
Get a letter(s) from your bank(s) stating that your accounts have been in good order--haven't bounced checks etc. My coop does not ask for financial references because you are submitting statements, tax returns, etc. The only exception would be if a buyer owned a non-public company where an accountants statement would be required. In any case if you are not sure about something, you or yourby nyc10025 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Question about condo/coop board package. - 18 years ago
A coop board package would consist of a summary of the individuals buying the apartment: their names, children's names and ages and anyone else who is to live in the apartment, pets, employers etc. A copy of the sales contract. A copy of the mortgage commitment. A financial summary showing all assets and liabilities and backup for each one. Also showing sources of income and letters verifyinby nyc10025 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Question about condo/coop board package. - 18 years ago
I don't know which bank you deal with but at Chase, for example, you can get a print out of your bank statement(the last 15/30 days) at the ATM. Also, I'm the Treasurer of my coop and I would accept your last month's statement with a current print out from the internet with an explanation.by nyc10025 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: carpeting in co-op apartments-NYC Law - 18 years ago
I'm not a lawyer therefore I can't cite the case law. However, this Sunday November 13, the Council of New York Cooperatives and Condominiums is having their Housing Conference at Hunter College. There is a session from 12:30 to 2 PM called The Business Judgement Rule which is moderated by the CNYC president Marc Luxemburg, Esq. I'm going to the conference but not to that session.by nyc10025 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: carpeting in co-op apartments-NYC Law - 18 years ago
Coop Boards have wide discretion in setting rules within the coop under the "business judgement" rule of law. This has been upheld in courts many times. However, they must apply these rules equally for all the shareholders.by nyc10025 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Theatre tickets - internet or not? - 18 years ago
It may be a bit cheaper at TKTS (say 50% off instead of 40%) but in my opinion it is better to use broadwaybox.com. You will know in advance when you are going, what are the seats, etc. At TKTS, you have to waste time standing on the line and when you get to the window, you may not like what is available.by nyc10025 - Ask a New Yorker :
