Re: Footwear while touring new york - 17 years ago
Obviously dependent on time of year and weather, but in warm months I wear a Birkenstock type of sandal almost all the time. In colder times, I wear a Dr Marten shoe that's well worn in and extremely comfy.by Daisiegee - Ask a New Yorker :

Living in the NE of England I know of My Weekly, but can I say as a woman in her late 40's I would say that no-one of my age reads the magazine. Mum used to read it till very recently and she's in her 70's, so the information you are asking for may need to be tailored to a different age group. For instance , the best budget hotel that I might suggest would not suit people of an oby Daisiegee - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: restaurants - 17 years ago
I stayed there a few years back and to be honest I ws very disappointed with my room. The public areas of the hotel are lovely, but our room was in dire need of updating---certainly not scruffy however. It's very near Grand Central Terminal and all the subways that are there, but I found the immediate location to be a bit quiet at night.by Daisiegee - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Some Qs before upcoming weekend trip - 17 years ago
I was in NYC 2 weeks ago and went into a store on W23rd st between 5th and 6th and got 2 pairs of Levis for only $19.99 each. What a bargainby Daisiegee - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: New York for New Years Eve - 17 years ago
I spent last New Years Eve in New York and we went out for a meal and then strolled into Central Park just in time for the fireworks at midnight. They were incredible and there's also a midnight run that you see going on. A much better option than Times Sq if you ask me.by Daisiegee - Ask a New Yorker :

The Cheyenne ( the Tropicana ad on TV has this place on it) is quite good. It has seats at the counter as well as booths. On the corner of W33rd and 9th Ave.by Daisiegee - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Money - 17 years ago
It's a great way of getting your holiday money Mell. Some banks charged us $1.50-$2.00 withdrawal(couldn't find an HSBC in San Francisco or Denver), but HSBC never did. There are quite a few of them around in NYC too.by Daisiegee - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Money - 17 years ago
From your IP address it seems your from the UK? If so, here's the best advice I can give you regarding your money. Open a Nationwide FlexAccount and you can access your money from HSBC ATM's fee free and they don't charge a conversion fee. It's just like going to your own bank in the UK, plus you get the bank exchange rate at the time of withdrawal and not the tourist rate. Thby Daisiegee - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: which area should i stay in, im 25 - 17 years ago
My daughter who's 25 stayed near Union Sq this past June and she and her boyfriend loved the area. After spending some time down there recently I can understand why as it's a great area for young people. Sorry I can't be of any help re the hotels you mentioned.by Daisiegee - Ask a New Yorker :

Have you checked the reviews on tripadvisor.com(http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g60763-d93390-Reviews-Belleclaire_Hotel-New_York_City_New_York.html). I haven't stayed there, but it gets some good comments.by Daisiegee - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Bubba & Bean Lodges - 17 years ago
Personally, I'd rather be closer to midtown. My daughter recently stayed in Second Home (www.secondhomesecondavenue.com) which has mainly shared bathrooms, but it is well within your budget and she loved it. The area and the transport links are great.by Daisiegee - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Serendipity - 17 years ago
It's right close to Bloomingdales up on E60th St. I've been once and it wasn't too crowded, food was OK, nothing special. It's a pretty place, but there are quite often long waits. Have you seen their website which has a reservations number (http://www.serendipity3.com/main.htm)by Daisiegee - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: new yorker Ramda plaza - 17 years ago
It's right beside an entrance to the W34th st station. I've stayed there before , wouldn't do it again, although latest reports are that some renovated rooms are available. I don't much care for that area at night when the stores on W34th close, it always seems a bit gloomy.by Daisiegee - Ask a New Yorker :
