Moving to NY - but where?
January 25, 2012 03:40PM
Hi,

We are a young family with a 2 year old child and will be moving to NY.

Any advice on where to relocate would be highly appreciated.

I will be working near Grand Central Station. We will not be bringing a car.
Any safe and clean areas with good daycare centers.

We will rent a 2+ bedroom and could spend 2500$ a month.

Which area in Queens/Brooklyn/Jersey could be of interest?

Thank you in advance.

if you will work near grand central, you could try sunnyside or astoria in queens, both good neighborhoods in your price range and easy to get to grand central. I live in sunnyside and once I'm on the 7 train, it's just about 10 minutes to grand central. no need for a car!

Thank you very much!

Would Sunnyside be a better choise in terms of bringing a toddler/2 year old?

Any other areas you would recommend?

When I visited Kelly in Sunnyside my impression was that it was a family friendly area. Very quick commute to Manhattan.

You might want to consider subletting before you sign a lengthy lease, this way once you are settled and know the city more you can decide what fits you best.

www.sublet.com is a good place to check out. Best of luck!
