Hi Matthew,
Last week while driving up the west side hwy, I went thought an intersection as the light was changing from yellow to red. When I stopped at the next light, an officer walks up to my window, says I had ran the previous light, and hands me a ticket. He wasn\'t in a car and appeared to have just been walking on the sidewalk, which I found odd. Anyways, I was shocked at the price of the ticket, and was wondering what chance I would stand should I choose to fight it. I just moved here from TN, so I\'m also curious as to how NY traffic violations and the point system effect my license. Thanks for your help!

Alana,
It can take 15 to 30 days for your NYC ticket to \"hit\" the DMV online system. Be patient as it will likely pop up soon. Meanwhile, do NOT worry about the 15-day \"deadline\" set forth on the ticket. You actually have much more time to answer it without any suspension being imposed.

Jason,
Points from a NY conviction will transfer onto your TN license. Therefore, it\'s worth fighting.
I\'ve written an article called \"Fighting A Traffic Ticket At The Traffic Violations Bureau\" that should help you understand the process better.

I was convicted of 1128a in Brooklyn. The officer blatently lied a number of times during trial, which I can easily disprove on appeal. My question is that since my appeal is based on the officer\'s testimony at trial, do I need to obtain a transcript to submit to the appelate judge or does the appelate judge have access to the transcript without me submitting (and paying for) it to him?

Harvey,
To appeal this case, you must file the DMV\'s appeal form within 30 days of the conviction and pay the $10 per ticket fee. In 30 days, you\'ll receive a bill for $50. This is a deposit towards the transcript fee and must be paid. If you fail to pay the $50, then the appellate court will only review whether the penalty (fine, etc) was reasonable.

I received 3 tickets in Suffolk county for use of a commercial vehicle on a parkway, expired license and registration. I pled guilty, but my address on my license is my physical address. I made sure to note that all mail needed to be sent to a P.O box. I finally received a letter saying that a pre trial conference was set for 8/14/13. This letter came to me on the 24th of august. Now I'm going crazy trying to figure out who to contact to correct this. I am worried about my license being suspended. Will I have to go to court now, or is there someone I can speak with about this?

Appear at the court today (or tomorrow) and explain the situation. If you hurry, you likely can avoid being suspended.
Feel free to call us if you have any questions or need help.

Valery Vlad,
Because points from New York transfer to Quebec and Ontario, we recommend that you fight this NY speeding ticket. The wrong plate number on your ticket does not render it fatally defective. Nevertheless, you CAN fight it by pleading not guilty.
Feel free to contact us if you want to discuss further.

Rich,
How you handle your conference depends on a few variables including your driving record and the court in which your case is to be heard. Generally, dress well (business causal is okay) and be polite. If your record is otherwise clean, make sure you point this out.
Good luck fighting this traffic ticket!
