While many people only dream of being an award winning TV Producer, Dennis O’Brien accomplished that but still wasn’t satisfied. Instead, the New York photographer picked up his still camera to embark on a new frontier.
O’Brien tells us:“After working with moving images for many years in television, I wanted to slow things down to capture the genuine moments that expressed a New York feel to me. The only problem with that plan was New York never stops and poses. You have to get out there, keep shooting, and be patient.”DSC_0805fix-enhsmo-800-1
Today Dennis O’Brien shoots New York and anything of interest within it. O’Brien’s work has now become sought after among collectors and architects alike as well as interior designers eager to display his images on the walls of their discerning clients.
According to O’Brien : “A good photograph is one which makes the viewer feel as though they are standing next to you as you shoot it. The great pictures are the ones people want to revisit often because of the way it makes them feel.”
It is not difficult to see why this Rochester born lens man is the photographer art collectors are eager to own. Looking at his work who wouldn’t want to own one?
Yet, it seems as compliments abound O’Brien takes it all in his stride and merely goes about realizing a childhood dream while shooting the City he loves. “Moving to New York was always my dream. It is the city in which everything is possible and nothing is predictable.”
Whether it’s unique shots of Central Park or City Landmarks, O’Brien’s work offers a unique perspective on the city we all know and love.
His work speaks for itself and at Ask a New Yorker we are proud to share it with you!
