Imagine getting a little bit of the Ocean sans seaweed in Mid-Town. Well now you can. The New York Health and Racquet Club,( NYHRC) currently has saltwater pools at three of its Manhattan locations at 50th Street, 76th Street, and 23rd Street, and swimmers say that the effects on the skin are amazing. In fact the feedback from swimmers has been so positive the club is now converting all of their pools to salt water. This eco – friendly idea is not just better for the environment but swimmers are literally lapping these pools up. Far from being just a novelty the saltwater pool also offers great health benefits too.

There are indeed many benefits to salt water. It is less harmful to the skin and eyes, certainly less destructive to swimsuits, and also reduces the typical swimming pool odor. Furthermore salt water also improves air quality. “As we enter our 40th year helping New Yorkers stay healthy and get fit, we salute my father’s belief in water fitness,” said Kim Manocherian, President and CEO of the New York Health & Racquet Club. Kim’s father founded the club in 1973. She says: “The transition to saltwater pools was the clear choice to improve the well-being and experience of our members while honoring my father’s belief in the health and fitness benefits of water..” The next pool up for conversion to saltwater will be at the clubs 56th Street location. So you don’t have to go to the beach to enjoy the Ocean but instead you can get saltwater right in New York Swimming Pools. How cool is that!
