Re: Classic drink location and any decent UWS pubs? - 18 years ago
You GOTTA go to Blondies. They have great wings (yummy!)! It may get a little crowded w/NBA playoffs & baseball, but not as crowded as it gets during college football & basketball. Here's the websiteby bxgrl74 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Harlem Help - 18 years ago
Why Harlem? Just wondering. I don't think there is any one perfect area. What you see now I guarantee you will NOT see come June, July & August when its 95 degrees out. Let's just say that in certain areas throughout this city there are different ways of living. For example....a fire hydrant that's open full blast will mean more than likely you will have low water pressure. Theby bxgrl74 - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: HONEYMOON in NYC - 18 years ago
Hmmmmmmmm.......August when the air is so thick you can cut it w/a knife. When the streets smell of garbage....Sorry, now I'm ruining the romantic aspect of it all. You could take a horse & carriage ride, providing the horses will be out (they MUST come in when the temps hit a certain degree). Or a walk thru Central Park could suffice. There's the Circle Line....take the fullby bxgrl74 - Ask a New Yorker :

Walking down the street & seeing someone famous. I've seen (and still counting): Brad Pitt & Juliette Lewis (when they were dating, of course) coming out of the Plaza David Bowie & Iman getting out of a limo on Central Park South Chris Farley near the NBC studios Henry Winkler (the FONZ) on 7th or 8th Ave. near 42nd. Re: 101st - 102nd street Lexington ave. - 18 years ago
That area is ok. My bf works for the Transit Authority which has a garage on 100th & Lex. I've gone there many times in the dark, late at night, in the summer, in the winter. I've walked the dog around there. The projects there are quiet too. It's just as safe as yuppyville up the block.by bxgrl74 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: #4 bus to the Cloisters museum? - 18 years ago
If your so worried over your safety, then why bother? The A train is the best bet. You take it to 190th Street & take the elevator up. Nothing will happen to you that wouldn't happen in West Bumcrap America. And BTW, plenty of crap happens in Central Park. But not everything makes the news.by bxgrl74 - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Yankee Stadium to New Jersey Devils stadium - 18 years ago
You need to take the 4 train to Grand Central (42nd Street) then get the shuttle to Port Authority & do the above. You could also take the D train to 42nd & 6th Ave. & either walk to PA or take the 7 to PA. You MUST MUST MUST keep in mind that this is a SUNDAY game, which means there are SUNDAY schedules for trains & buses. There maybe extra trains leaving Yankee Stadium but Sby bxgrl74 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Weather in June - 18 years ago
There have been days in June when it was just DISGUSTING! We get a lot of humidity (thanks to those Southerners!) & add in the smog & pollution & its just GROSS! I'd definately bring tank tops & shorts along w/me. As for shoes, if you wear sandals make sure they are COMFORTABLE. Flip flops are cool but if your going to be walking around a lot they will start to hurt your feetby bxgrl74 - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Discount Shopping - 18 years ago
Canal Street east of Broadway (6 train to Canal) has the knockoffs. Most of those bags & sunglasses will wind up breaking in a few months since the quality is pretty crappy. And beware of the people who will take you into buildings. Apparently there are some who have "showrooms" in some buildings in lower Manhattan. That's just pretty flipping stupid to go into ANY buildingby bxgrl74 - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: Quick comment... the BX vx the rest of NY??? - 18 years ago
The part of the Bronx I live in would shock people. It's beyond quiet, fairly safe & clean. The majority of homes are selling for well over 500k, but as usual the Bronx has a stigma of just being one big ghetto. Don't get me wrong, I won't be walking down Brook & 138th Street anytime soon. But there are far WORSE areas of the US & NYC too. But comon you should knowby bxgrl74 - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: hospitals to deliver at - 18 years ago
I was born in Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in Washington Hts some many moons ago. That area was horrid then, a bit better now, although I think your family would probably freak out if they went there for the first time, espcially in August. Its an EXCELLENT hospital, but the area is just the pits. I don't care what they do w/the area, when your having family come see you, they shouldby bxgrl74 - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: new your - 18 years ago
I'm assuming you will be staying in Manhattan. Basically, ANY bar on the east side will have music, some live some have DJ's (but will be playing Irish music). There are TONS of bars along 3rd Ave in the 70's, 80's & 90's. I will tell you that they do get crowded on SPD & some you have to pay a cover charge ($5-$10, usually includes a beer). And this year, as wellby bxgrl74 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Work - 18 years ago
Well you should care where you work bc that will deterimine where you will live. The majority of jobs are of course in Manhattan. But there are jobs in the outer boros as well as suburbs. Depends on what you want to do. So, what do you want to do?by bxgrl74 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Outlet/bargain shopping in NYC - 18 years ago
So much you know. I didn't grow up in the Bronx. I am a born & raised Manhattanite, unlike so many of the fakes & phonies out here to claim something they are NOT. I never told anyone to shop in the Bronx. I don't even shop in the Bronx. They asked where to go for outlet/bargain shopping. FYI, I wouldn't trust them. I'd stick w/Fortunoff's (there's one on 5th), Michael C. Fina, DeBeers (new place on 5th), even Tiffany's. Diamond District is a tad bit shysti (did I spell that right?) in my opinion. Only an opinion though.by bxgrl74 - Ask a New Yorker :

There's a great house in Pelham Pkwy in the Bronx that does it up every year. A lot of the houses in that area also. But you really need to drive, strike or no strike. Its easier to see the homes via car. I'm sure areas of Staten Island also do up great homes.by bxgrl74 - Ask a New Yorker :

So I ask this...is there a problem w/people having a HS diploma making more than those w/college degrees. I just don't get why that bothers so many people. Jealousy maybe. Re: commute stories??? - 18 years ago
I think some are making this into a bigger issue than what it is. I've heard people complain & they are w/in walking & living distance to the major depots such as GCS,PA & Penn. I'm lucky enough to have a car so I drove to MN at Botanical Garden & took MN down. I'm also lucky enough to work across from GCS.
