Re: Harlem at night time - safe? - 9 years ago
I'm a woman and have safely walked at night on 125th Street. I've found the West side to be much safer than the East side (sketchy after midnight) because it's close to Columbia University.by ExploreUnknownNewYork - Ask a New Yorker :

I'm a New York City History Detective & Educator making my way through every neighborhood in each borough of the city every 2 weeks doing research for museums, libraries, and for unique expeditions that I lead. I find my locations using AirBNB, Craig's List, and CouchSurfing. Ideas: The Central Park Zoo, Museum Family Days, Carousels in Central Park/Bryant Park, Boat trip around the island, there are lots of new kid-friendly parks on the west side of Manhattby ExploreUnknownNewYork - Ask a New Yorker :

The beach was once known as the "Riviera of New York" after the great pavilion and beach were created in the 1930's. There are small islands off of the beach that are really inteby ExploreUnknownNewYork - Ask a New Yorker :

May 12-20, 2012 is NYC Wildflower Week. There are a lot of events regarding green technologies. I went to the Mannahatta talk yesterday which was informative and interesting. The Industrial Green Roof event on Friday, May 18 in Brooklyn also looks like a great way to get to know the latest technologies that are being used in the city. http://nycwildflowerweek.org/events.htmby ExploreUnknownNewYork - Ask a New Yorker :

There's a small district that's called the Manhattan Art and Antiques Center on 2nd Ave/56th St. I've walked by there many times but haven't stopped in. Looking at the list of galleries on their web site, it appears that there are dozens of vendors. http://www.the-maac.com/ Also, I've visited Sadigh Gallery on 5th Ave/31st St to view their ancient artifacts.
