Wedding Reception / Decor items

Posted by Lottin_uk
Hi there
We are travelling over to NY from Scotland in August to get married. Our question is, we have been looking for a store which would sell wedding items, such as confetti, balloons, disposable cameras, etc (we have a chain in the UK called confetti.co.uk) and can't find anything online - any ideas? This would save us taking items like this in our luggage - any help much appreciated.

Thanks
Laura

We do have party stores where you can get balloons. I'm not 100% sure, but I would guess it's illegal to throw confetti because of litter laws. You can get disposable cameras at any Duane Reade store, they're on every corner.

For party stores, go to google maps and plug in a zip code for your hotel. If you don't know, just use a midtown zip code like 10017, which is pretty central. Then use their "search nearby" function for "balloons" or "card stores" or "party stores" or whatever.

Oh...congratulations!!

I go here:
Marty City, 38 W. 14th St
New York, NY 10011
(212) 271-7310

But any dollar store will have party supplies. Try Jacks on 32 south of Macy's.
Look for cameras at dollar stores, too, or at Jacks. Staples often has them on sale too - probably cheaper than Duane Reade.

Yes, confetti is a no-no - especially anywhere outside, but hotels hate it, too. If you want to throw things, go to the flower district and ask for a box of rose petals, or barter some from the flower/deli by your hotel. Most people now use 'wedding bubbles" instead - you can buy a box of them at the party places, little bottles with blowpipes and suds inside.

Happy wedding!
Thanks so much for the replies,
saves us having to search through so many stores, incase we are ages getting our wedding license.

THanks again.

The flower petals are a great idea. Birdseed is often used also. This became popular after attention was brought as to how hazardous enriched rice is to birds.
