Why are cab drivers always in a hurry?

I was wondering the reason why cabs are always in a hurry? DO they get in trouble if they don't make the trip in a reasonable time? I always thought the longer it would take the more money they would make.
It might sound like a stupid question, but I always wondered that.

Thanks

Most of the fare is determined by the distance traveled. So the faster the driver can get you to that destination, the faster he can get a new fare.
Unless you like waiting at every red light and watch the meter click every minute for waiting.
