Elibrarian gave you some great ideas above. And the normal NYC things with kids are extra-special around the holidays:

FAO Schwarz (not Schwartz)
Dylan's Candy Bar
Rockettes at Radio City
The Ziegfeld Theater is showing: Disney's Animated Musical The Princess and the Frog
Plus The Ultimate Disney Experience

I've never been to NYC. I want to experience the feeling of Christmas in the big apple. I'd like to come around the middle of December. I want to see all the decorated windows, sip hot chocolate at Serendipity, see the Rockafeller Christmas Tree and the Macy's Santa. I'd like to take in a show and do a City tour. Is thurs to sun long enough for this? Please recommend a hotel that would be fairly central or within a short walking distance (I have a bad knee) to some of these areas that is not expensive. I know I'm asking a lot but I am hoping you can offer some advice. Thank you.
