IS New York called the Big Apple for it's apple growth? And, about how much snow fall is there in the winter?

No, the Big Apple has nothing to do with apple growing, although upstate New York does produce some very good apples. The term comes from jazz musicians--there are conflicting opinions about the origin. The snow can be as early as November, picks up in December and is the most in January and February but extends into March. If you come in the winter months, there will be about a 20 percent chance that snow will be on the ground.

Last winter was very disappointing, very little snow.
