There are many consignment shops/thrift stores on the Upper East Side. Michaels (80th & Madison), Ina (73 & 3rd) are consignment. On 77 betw. 2nd & 3rd are thrift shops where you can drop off and get a tax-deductible receipt.

my girlfriend just found this place, got some great jeans here for $40, in perfect shape, and they'd cost over $100 new.
It's all second-hand, high-end stuff.
