I just saw some info on the town of Hershey on a travel show, and for a chocoholic like me, it seems like the perfect place to visit!
Is it easy to get to Hershey from NY? If anyone knows the easiest way to get there, how long it would take, etc that would be very helpful smiling smiley
Any general comments about Hershey would be good too, like what there is to do, apart from visit the factory!

There is a Hershey Store in Times Square. That's a lot easier than going all the way to PA.

Being from Europe and so being used to great Swiss, French, German etc. chocolate, I tried Hershey's plain milk chocolate when I was over there. Well, I don't wanna hurt anyone's feelings, but it was so horrible I threw it all out... sad smiley (btw I'm a huge US fan and I love most of the things I saw, eat, drank... there, so I wouldn't trash it just because I'm a too proud European - which I'm not)

I just did this trip back in October, it took us about 2.5 hours from New York City to Hershey. There really is not much to see or do in Hershey, I would take the advice about the store in Times Square. If you want the directions I took let me know.

agreed, Hershey chocolate is crap compared to most European chocolate.

I was pretty unimpressed with Hershey chocolates as well, (we have really good chocolate in Australia) but I did like nuggets (I think that's the name) with nuts and candy in them. If you are limited with time while you are in New York just go to the store in Times Square you would waste a whole day travelling to and from Hershey PA

I just realised that you are from Australia too, so to give you an idea, Hersheys don't come near Cadburys or any of our mass produced brands let alone the more specialised ones. You will also find that there is not as much variety in chocolates, chips or cracker biscuits as we have, I had visitors bringing over Arnotts crackers, especially BBQ Shapes. Kit Kats and Milky Ways are totally different to ours as well.

If you crave some really nice chocolate biscuits (cookies for the Americans) while there I can highly recommend Petheridge Farms, I can't remember the name but it was a mixture of different chocolate biscuits and they were fantastic.

Hi Marea - we must have very different tastes, because I really like Hershey's chocolate. (I also like Cadbury, I think I just like any chocolate!)
I have just under three weeks in NY, so I think I will try and get to Hershey, but it might be at the bottom of my list, and if anything better turns up, I will just skip it

Mars bars and Snickers are different too.

I hav found they are becoming more and more difficult to find, the only place I could find Snickers was at Street Vendors, but alas no Mars bars!

By unimpressed I didn't mean I didn't like it I just thought it was average. Hope you have a great time in New York I know you will love it.
