here are my suggestions for trip with a small child:
Central Park ice skating...a three year old can watch!
There is a zoo in central park. also a carousel. Just get a map of central park...there's lots to do in the park.
My niece was 4 when she visited me here and she loved it.
Also, go to the toy store FAO Schwarz on Fifth Ave at 58th Street. You could spend a day in there (and a small fortune) with a little kid.
Go to Rockefeller Center to watch all the people skating and visiting and see the big tree.
and be sure to go to the Natural History Museum on the upper west side.
