All of the stores (Macys, Bloomingdales, Lord and Taylor, Nordstrom, etc) all have good sales in January. But don't just stick to those stores....there are so many others, like down in SoHo especially. I also recommend buying a magazine called "Time Out New York" when you arrive, it will tell you all of the "sample sales" going on that week. Sample sales have top-name designer merchandise for dirt-cheap prices. For instance, a couple weeks ago I was at a Cole Haan (shoes) sample sale and got a $200 pair of shoes for $25. Have fun.
