Can anyone suggest any good, fun and cheap bars around west 55th midtown, we are staying at the Dream Hotel (any good by the way?).

Also any suggestions for good restaurants/diners in the area would be much appreciated. Also any good diners for breakfast.

If the Beacon is still doing its early-bird bar special, it's one of the best bargains in town. Two cocktails plus a small pizza for $20. Their white cosmos are lovely!

Russian Vodka Room is good. For midtown its pretty cheap. Good martinis and cheap Russian beers (Baltikas). They sometimes have live piano/singing too.
