It took less than a week for the Humans of New York photo-blogger to raise more than $1 million for underprivileged young New Yorkers living in one of the city’s toughest neighborhoods — making it the most-funded campaign ever on Indiegogo Life.
More than 38,000 people chipped in donations — most between $1 and $100 — to help the students of Mott Hall Bridges Academy, a middle school in Brownsville.
Brandon Stanton launched the campaign on Jan. 22, reaching out to his more than 11 million followers to help him raise $100,000 to fund an annual Harvard trip for the school’s sixth-graders.
Within 24 hours, thousands of people helped raise more than $200,000. On Wednesday, donations surpassed $1 million.
The money will be used to fund three different programs at the school for the next decade — the Harvard trip, a summer program, and an annual scholarship for one outstanding scholar.
