i've noticed on a recent visit to harlem that people are hanging their old sneakers in trees or up on street signs or traffic lights; well, what's up with that?
i've seen a tree that must have had 50 pairs of sneakers on it.

Yo, man it's a symbol, man, like a protest. The shoes represent the lynching of the blacks by KKK and others years ago. It is to remember the evil of those days.
