I am a studnet activities coordinator from VT, bring 108 Colelge students to NYC in early December. We do a Road Rules adventure in which teams of students run around the city completing missions for points in hopes of winning the grand prize. I send them to all the well known places, as well as the Seinfeld Restaurant, Hello Deli, a number of icons in Central Park, and a few things like that...this is the 7th year I have brought students on this trip and I am looking for some cool and unusual place to send them...any fun ideas for me?

...also...we are trying to find out where the coffee shop is that Elf went to, for the World's best cup of coffee...
Thanks
What is "Hello Deli?" What is "Coffee shop that Elf went to?" Which elf?

And I've lived here all my life ...

Try finding a menu of food from the following countries:

Afghanistan
Albania
Uzbekistan
Peru
Brazil
The Dominican Republic
Egypt

... or menus from FOUR different countries in Latin America, any four. (We have all of them, you can choose your four. smiling smiley )

I know the answers of where to find these, if you're curious.

How about sending them to find the largest scale model of the entire city, with every building in miniature?

Or the globe of the world from "Men In Black" - come back with how many tons it weighs, which is on the plaque in front of the globe.

Hello Deli is on 53rd Street, near the Ed Sullivan Theatre. It's frequently featured on "Late Show With David Letterman." "Elf" is a holiday movie starring Will Ferrell--don't know the location of the coffee shop, though.

Another unique thing to find would be some of the cool subway art, like the Lichtenstein mural in the Times Square station.
141 Wooster Street in Soho...The Earth Room...A classic hidden gem. Once inside ask about the Broken Kilometer. Just around the corner. Same artist. Ask the kids to guess how many rods they see lying on the floordrinking smiley

An interior earth sculpture.
250 cubic yards of earth (197 cubic meters)
3,600 square feet of floor space (335 square meters)
22 inch depth of material (56 centimeters)
Total weight of sculpture: 280,000 lbs. (127,300 kilos)

The New York Earth Room, 1977, is the third Earth Room sculpture executed by the artist, the first being in Munich, Germany in 1968. The second was installed at the Hessisches Landesmuseum in Darmstadt, Germany in 1974. The first two works no longer exist.

The New York Earth Room has been on long-term view to the public since 1980. This work was commissioned and is maintained by Dia Art Foundation.

Visitor Information

The New York Earth Room is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 6 pm (closed 3:00-3:30). Admission is free.

One of our greatest free experiences is the Staten Island Ferry. Fantastic views of the city and The Statue of Liberty. Major Points! Takes about 1hr rt. Hide in the bathroom if you don't want to deboard. They make everyone get off and reboardsmoking smiley
Hi,
I'm also looking for the coffee shop/restaurant where Will Farrell (in Elf) went into to congratulate them on the "World's Best Cup of Coffee".

Do you know/anyone know the location of that place?
Hi,

I didn't see my message posted so if you see this duplicated I apologize. If you are looking for something unique about New York, you should try an Egg Cream. Although they are not free, they are usually quite inexpensive ($2.95 or so). If you don't know what it is or where to find them, you can get more information at [www.NewYorkCityEggCream.com].

There's also a fun page there about "How to Totally Tick Off Native New Yorkers". That page is at [www.newyorkcityeggcream.com]
