Luggage Storage June 02, 2005 03:53PM |
Hello,
I need some help, traveling to NYC for the first time and have a question about luggage storage for a couple of hours. We are taking a cruise that will return early, (around 10 AM) but our return flight does not leave until 8PM. We wanted to store our luggage for a couple of hours till we needed to go to the airport. We can not store our luggage at the Port, Penn Station, or on the boat. Any ideas?
Thanks

Hello
I had a similar problem last time I stayed in NYC (early checkout, late flight) and was told that since 9/11 the New York Hilton (West 53rd Street and Avenue of the Americas) was the only place in New York that would hold luggage - they pass it through an x-ray scanner like at airports - at a cost of $4 or $5 a bag. This may be a complete myth, but its worth asking.
I got around my problem by offering cash to the Super of the apartment block I was staying in so I never had to use the Hilton.

I can pretty much verify there is no luggage storage in NYC because of the security threat.
Your best bet is to actually RENT A CAR and store your luggage in the trunk; you can usually find a free parking space on the street without too much trouble (try to pick a busy area) - especially on a weekend. Otherwise, there are parking lots for about $20 near the piers.
The added benefit is you can drive yourself to the airport and save the transfer or taxi costs - which if you're going to JFK can just about pay for the rental.
Driving in NYC isn't as bad as it looks on TV, but PLEASE study a map before you head out for the airports - it will really help you rather than trying to navigatge on the fly.
Good luck...

Hey,
One option if you are in transit in NYC just for one day and you will fly somewhere after, you can buy a regular train ticket to go to the aeroport (that meens more expensive ticket, for instance the ticket to Newark costs 24$) and in this case, leave your baggages to the baggage storage at Penn Station. I called Amtrak and it is possible to do that.
It is one of the only choice that you have if you need to store your baggages.
