Denise McCray, our NYC Uberchic for June 2009

Ask a New Yorker: Denise has arrived. You’re looking hot. What are you wearing?

Denise: Well, basically it’s a pink blouse and a black business suit (Laughs).

Ask a New Yorker: Got it.

Denise: I had a job interview earlier, retail work.

Ask a New Yorker: Let’s go over and stand by Ghandi. What’s your last name?

Denise: McCray, Irish.

Ask a New Yorker: Black Irish, really? That’s cool.

Ask a New Yorker: Here’s Ghandi walking through Union Square.

Denise: When I think of Ghandi , I think he is very spiritual. That’s all I know about him.

Ask a New Yorker: What are some of your interests?

Denise: I like to draw fashion, sketching.

Ask a New Yorker: Who’s you favorite fashion designer?

Denise: Zac Posen.

Ask a New Yorker: Do you have brothers and sisters?

Denise: I have two brothers both younger than me. One is 14 he does what he does and the other is 1 year old so he really doesn’t do anything. They look up to me though.

Ask a New Yorker: Do you have any goldfish?

Denise: No, I have a cat named Precious.

Ask a New Yorker: Maybe your cat ate the goldfish. What was the happiest moment of your life?

Denise: The happiest moment was when I booked my first job as a model and got my first check. It was for a European magazine called Rouge.

Ask a New Yorker: What’s your specialty as a model?

Denise: I’ve done lingerie, swimsuits and music videos.

Ask a New Yorker: What famous Rappers’ videos have you modeled in?

Denise: I just recently did a video for Fabulous.

Ask a New Yorker: Where do you live?

Denise: I live in Flatbush, Brooklyn on Lenox, lots of trees and very quiet.

Ask a New Yorker: I understand your modeling for New York Faces Magazine?

Denise: Well, I met them through my agency. I did a runway contest for them and I won third place. Since then they had me on a radio show. And, I’ve met Ask a New Yorker too!

Ask a New Yorker: I don’t know what else to ask, that’s a first. Let’s see, here are some questions that Story Corps uses. Are there any words of wisdom you would like to pass along to me?

Denise: My word of wisdom for you is just to be honest and keep your sense of humor because it makes people feel comfortable around you.

Ask a New Yorker: Here’s another Story Corp question. Who has been the biggest influence in your life?

Denise: That would be two people. One would be my mother because she is a hard worker. I’d like to try to follow her footsteps. Another is a Ford model who came into my store who I had never met before & gave me some excellent advice. She really helped me out with my confidence.

Ask a New Yorker: Do you have a boyfriend or a significant other?

Denise: Yes I do. What I love about my boyfriend is that he is just so different. He’s not a fake. He’s very honest and trustworthy. It’s all about me– that is what I like most about him (Laughs).

Ask a New Yorker: Are there any other questions you would like me to ask you?

Denise: Why don’t you ask me what I think about life?

Ask a New Yorker: O.K what do you think about life?

Denise: Life is very confusing. It’s a lot of things you have to learn, which you can only get through experience. I’m only 20 years old so I’m now thinking about my goals and how to achieve them. I think everything is kind of planned out. Everything now I’m going through is supposed to happen. Things always work out for the best. If you don’t go through the hard times you won’t be able to appreciate the good ones.

Ask a New Yorker: Thanks for sharing good luck with your modeling. How can people reach you if they want to book you?

Denise: You can find me on http://www.modelmayhem.com/ 370697 is my id# or bookdenise@gmail.com
