Checking out of the Carlyle is never an easy experience but it was particularly emotional for Broadway actress Elaine Stritch who for the past decade has called the hotel home. Now she has finally checked out and with a grand exit. As soon as Stritch, 88, took her last elevator ride to the lobby, no less than 35 hotel employees were there to bid their favorite guest farewell. The staff including housekeeping, front-desk, chefs, engineers, and managers all lined up to cheer and applaud this lady they have come to love.

It was a very emotional exit for Stritch, who has decided to leave her beloved New York and return to her native Michigan to be close to family. The actress has lived in New York for 71 years. This Broadway legend will most certainly be missed but we say thanks for being a great part of us for so long!
