Re: Various Questions - 18 years ago
the no tax weekend is regulated by the state. nc and sc's no tax weekend is the first weekend in august and it is only good for items that can qualify as a back to school purchase. its a great time to buy a laptop!by LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: money - 18 years ago
Jeff- i haven't lived with my parents for 10 years. i'm 26 years old, not 15. thats what i meant when i said that i had planned for 10 years since i was 16 or so. how could i spend a semester in nyc at 15??? anyway, thank for your wishes (although they sound a bit sarcastic). I'll be sure to call you next year when i move. your message may not have been directed at me butby LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: money - 18 years ago
well let me just start by teaching you how to spell my name...L-I-N-D-S-E-Y. now MeMe i find your comments absolutely hysterical!!!!!! you have no idea who i am, how can you make such judgements? that only shows your immaturity, not mine. I have researched new york for 10 years, but keep in mind when i started i was only about SIXTEEN!!!! so jeff, would you think it would be wise to move toby LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: money - 18 years ago
well, not to be difficult, but i don't really fit into any of that. i guess i'm more mainstream than all of that, not to sound like a sheltered white girl. i'm open to living with just about any type as long as its safe and hopefully full and character and charm. i guess i just need to check out everything and see how i feel. thanks for the insight, that helps a lot!!!by LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: money - 18 years ago
so bottom line is....??? which would you choose, keeping in mind i'm a 26 year old white female? or should i just busy my tail to get in manhattan?by LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: money - 18 years ago
what do you mean by hip, just younger people around? and also "Brooklyn-ness"? i've never spent time in either place so i'm not really familar with them. i usually have time for manhattan when i'm visiting so when i'm there next week i am going to explore. so astoria and sunnyside in queens, anywhere else? where in brooklyn?by LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: money - 18 years ago
So Queens vs Brooklyn, what does everyone think??? i'll be working at 767 Fifth more than likely (or SoHo but doubtful). which is closer? more affordable or better place for the money?by LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: money - 18 years ago
thanks kelly. where did you live that your rent was 1000?by LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: money - 18 years ago
let me repeat something that you said, YOU DONT LIVE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!! your quotes on income have no merit because if that were the case, where would the waitresses and bartenders and starving artists live??? again i say, millions upon millions of people live there and make it on MUCH less than 75000 a year. i've researched nyc since i was 15, so about 12 years. i know what the costs areby LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: 1st year in NYC - 18 years ago
who is this jerk???? JEFF SMITH GET A LIFE AND GO AWAY!!!! can't we do anything about this? i love the advice on this post. i think it's all so true. i don't live there yet but i plan to only sleep in my apartment once i do. i love to just walk around and take everything in. see you all next year!!!by LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: salary - 18 years ago
now i dont live in nyc but from what i've figured (and thats by talking to several new yorkers) you should be fine on 47,000. now you cant go shopping at bloomingdales and get a starbucks every single day but you'll be doing better than tuna and spaghetti o's. i think some of these new yorkers need to learn how to budget and quit living like carrie bradshaw (dont i wish!)by LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Tree Lighting at the Rockefeller Center - 18 years ago
make sure you get there several hours before the tree is actually lit because it is VERY crowded. and depending on the weather, BUNDLE UP!!!!!! i have never been colder than i was that night, EVER!!!! you will be standing and waiting so just be prepared. definitely something everyone should see once. have fun!by LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: money - 18 years ago
new york is expensive?? really?? no way!!!! i've done my research, i know whats available in what areas. i know about areas outside of manhattan, i know about having a roommate. i've worked out the logistics for once i'm there but i need to know about preparation. i will have a job going up there because i work for a major cosmetics company so i will be working for their corpby LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: money - 18 years ago
my email is tinkerbell696@hotmail.com...i would looooove some advice. everything i'm hearing (see the last guy's response) has been very depressing. i've been told to have about $5000 saved up. it might as well be a million for as long as it wouldby LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
money - 18 years ago
Ok i'm going to try asking a question on here again and hopefully this time i will get replies. i am moving to nyc next year (sometime between february and august, depending on my job) and my question is approximately how much money will I need to have saved? i know about first month, last month, etc, etc but is it possible to find a decent apartment without a brokers fee?? is it possibleby LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :

curious apartment shopping....PLEASE HELP - 18 years ago
I am visiting NYC in mid September for the millionth time but this time I want to see it like a true New Yorker. I am going alone so that I can avoid all of the touristy stuff that friends always want to see. Any suggestions of hidden gems? Also, I am planning to move to the city next year but I would really like to see some apartments now, just so i know what my options are and what kind ofby LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: david letterman - 18 years ago
My mom and I got tickets in the standby line for Letterman. Granted, it was 9 years ago and they were in the upper part of the theater but still awesome. I think they changed the system since then but definitely worth the try and the line. take a jacket, it really is that cold in there. Good Luck!!!!by LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Broadway musicals- bad sight on cheapest seats? - 18 years ago
Go see Rent!!! two hours before every show there is a lottery for the first two rows of the theatre, $20 cash per ticket. I have done this twice and it is absolutely amazing, like sitting on the stage! Avoid the lottery on weekends though, very crowded and harder to get. Best early in the weekby LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Carrie Bradshaw - 18 years ago
I think it makes you crazy for sure. and you helped me LOTS Michael I will definitely be poking around Perry St on my visit next month. any other hot tips? I also think that straight guys should all watch SATC, may learn a thing or two and it shows your sensitive side, thats sexyby LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Cheap hotel, just outside manhattan? - 18 years ago
Speaking of Jersey City, anyone know the Holland Motor Lodge? I found a very inexpensive room there so I'm curious about how nice/safe it is as I will be traveling alone and walking to the PATH alone. it seems to be on the website and came recommended from the newport mall employee. any thoughts???by LindseyC696 - Ask a New Yorker :
