I am unable to respond to any of the topics posted on AANY lately. If I don't log in the reply box appears, but won't let me use it. If I do log in....it says 'syntax error' and there is no other facility for replying. Can anyone help me on this please....why is it happening, and what can I do? Thanks!!!by Lola - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: roommates - 18 years ago
I once had 2 roommates/housemates at the same time....both blokes! One was the 'Hitter From Hell' who rifled through my stuff when I was out, and was a lech. The other stayed for 20 years. I don't know whether you'd call that successful or not !!!by Lola - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Macys - 18 years ago
Would have to be a pretty big wallet/purse, as my card measures precisely 16 X 10.5cm. But if you don't have one large enough...guess what! You can buy one there...at 11% discount. Leather goods also included!!by Lola - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Macys - 18 years ago
Yeah...loads of stuff, great isn't it?!! And....when you get home you can swan around with your Macy's carrier bags, so that everybody knows where you've been. I've kept all of mine...sad!!! Must go back and collect some more!by Lola - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: Macys - 18 years ago
My Macy's discount card, obtained earlier this year, says it can be used for 30 days...and my name and the date are written on it, so no fooling them!! Valid at any Macy's store, but excluding purchases of cosmetics (unlucky for me as I bought loads!), fragrances, Bridal Kiosks, Everyday Values (what's that?), furniture, mattresses and rugs. Also not valid for Macy's gby Lola - Ask a New Yorker :

"Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" by Nina Simone.....yes, great voice. It's on the album "To Love Somebody"....very old. Was recorded about 1967/8, and includes other Bob Dylan covers. It's also been included on various compilation albums. Well worth digging it out!!by Lola - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: best stuff in greenwich village - 18 years ago
It was enough to just arrive there and walk. Found shops, nooky coffee shops (one was even doing a promotion and we got free cakes and coffee!), bars...had a fantastic time! But how did I manage to miss 86 Bedford St.? It sounds wonderful! A must for next time.by Lola - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: newyork-london - 18 years ago
I thought that was a bit harsh, however I do agree with you about the late night scene, and the transportation (and the weather). If you live in the outskirts and want to have a late night in London, you've had it! It's impossible to drive in so you're forced to use public transport. And just you try to get out! It's a mad dash to catch the last trains, to the point wherby Lola - Ask a New Yorker :

Re: newyork-london - 18 years ago
Ahh yes....Macey's. There's nothing to compare with that!! But what about Camden Market? Different...but there's nothing to compare with that either. One could go on and on! Why bother? They're both GREAT!!!!!!!!by Lola - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: newyork-london - 18 years ago
I have lived in London, or the local counties, for most of my life, and every time I go into the city I am still impressed, overwhelmed, excited. By everything....the architecture, the heritage, ceremony, the bright lights, the beauty of it all. And I can easily understand why tourists are attracted to this wonderful town. BUT...and a big BUT...nobody will talk to you (or is it just me?) from mby Lola - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: NYC Cab drivers...do they have a clue? - 18 years ago
Our cab driver from the airport into Manhattan was on his phone for the whole journey. He also had to brake hard several times, flinging us around in the back. We kept looking at each other in silent horror. First time there...just thought it must be the norm. Totally different on the return trip though. Cabbie chatted and even gave us a cheap fare!!by Lola - Ask a New Yorker :

"Just like Tom Thumb's Blues"...Bob Dylan. Easy!! But the joke was on me, There was nobody even there to call my bluff I'm going back to New York City I do believe I've had enough.by Lola - Ask a New Yorker :
Re: NY - 18 years ago
Hello KM, this Big Apple Greeter sounds just what I need, or indeed your self. When in a city like New York for a short break it doesn't do to waste time, and I did some of that I'm afraid. But not next time! Downtown, Uptown, Eastside, Westside, Upper, Lower, and that was just Manhattan. So confusing for someone like me who got lost at LHR. Thank you for your reply, I look forward toby Lola - Ask a New Yorker :
NY - 18 years ago
Popped into London to buy a skirt, couldn't find any I liked. So thought I'd drop by New York on the way home and get one! Sounded like a good enough reason to me. So having spent several days going at breakneck speed around the city, getting lost, missing things out, I wondered if there was a scheme where you could 'hire' a New Yorker to rush around with you?by Lola - Ask a New Yorker :
