Hi.
What is a New Yorker?Well I think I can´t answer this question because I´ve only been in this great and wonderfull part of America for at least 9 days in my summer-vacasions(?) this year.
I live here in Germany and the only thing I really know is: I´m not a NewYorker but I wished I were!
These 9 days in NewYork really impressed me and I can truely tell you, that those where the best days in my whole life!
And maybe the only defenition of a NewYorker I can add is the one I recognized in those 9 days: A NewYorker is in my view a nice, friendly and helpfull person.People I asked in those days for example to tell me, where the next Subway station is or whatever: I always got a nice, exact and friendly answer. So in my View, NewYorkers are great people and NewYork is also one of the best places in the World to be!!!
I hope somebody could reply on this because I´d really look forward to have some contact with NewYorker people, cause I love America and next year I´ll be back again!!!
Nice Greetings, Merry Christmas and a HappyNewYear and all the best wishes to you all, wishes you Cristoph from Germany!!!

Excellent reply, I live in NYC but presently I'm writing from Hawaii, definitely lets stay in touch let me know more about what your town is like. I visited Germany over the summer around Dresden actually in a town called Kahla, just beautiful...tomorrow they say NYC is to get 8 inches of snow....maybe will get a white Christmas!!!

You all are absolutely right. I have been in NY last weekend, for three days. I was so fascinated about the people and that taff city. There was so much warmness, friendlyness and harmony; there was no aggressiveness to feel for me. NY is a big pool of positive energy that (if you open your mind) feeds you at all time you stay there. When I came back to Germany, where I am from, my friends and family realized I had completely changed. I really saw lot of the world and many cities arround the globe but I never felt before what I felt in NY. I must go back as soon as possible. I whish I will get chance to live in NY sometime. I were proud to get part of the city and the great people there. -> NYer, I am with you at all time!

A New Yorker is ambitious, busy, physically fit (from walking all over the city and running to catch a bus or subway), spoiled (from the fact that you can get the cream of the crop in food, music, nightlife, coffee, and fashion usually within a five block raduis of where you live), friendly, helpful (if you ask a New Yorker for directions they WILL give you the right ones!), impatient (stemming from the fact that we can't wait for Friday night to come, the biggest night to go out in NYC is Thursday), tough (in both body and soul), outspoken (if we have something to say we're going to say it!!), compassionate (I don't think there is anyone that lives in NYC that can say they never gave a homeless person a cigarette, dollar, or food).
The only dividing line between New Yorkers is if you're a Yankees fan or a Mets fan. Ohterwise than that we stick together like glue.
And one other key thing to remember, NOTHING can shock a New Yorker. When you see Julia Roberts, hippies from the village, and three drag queens with beer bellies all walking down the same sidewalk at the same time nothing will surprise you. I don't think we're in Kansas anymore Toto!

Hi there everybody!!
I hope you all had a good start for 2003 and a nice christmas!!
I think it must have been great, to celebrate the new years eve in NYC (it is Times Square, right?)
I just wanted, to tell you, that I´m glad, about the nice replies, to my "article" =) about the definition of a New Yorker.
I havent been writing for some time, but in the future I´m going to write you more often, because I think it is really cool to have some good people, to talk to!!
To Kennedy: I live in the south of Germany in a town called "Karlsruhe" it is not such a big town like Berlin, but it is quite big.Dresden is also not so far away from "Karlsruhe" I think.
Well, I hope I will hear from you people again.I really would look forward to that.
Would be great to talk again to "my favourite City´s Citiziens"!!! =)
CU
Chris
P.S.:In terms of Baseball I would prefer the Yankees!!

Hello Christopher,
Thanks for the compliment of New Yorkers. Although I no longer live in New York, I know exactly what you mean, everyone thinks New Yorkers are rude and crude but they couldn't be further from the truth. I've lived all over this wonderful country but my favorite spots would have to be New York and California. I now live in Texas and believe me when I say "they are not friendly nor hospitable", they are in fact rude, crude, selfish, two-faced and have the biggest egos I have ever experienced. Anyway I hope you get the opportunity to really explore NY on your next visit. I'm sure you only saw a small portion of the city in only 9 days. Good luck in your endeavors!

Hey Christoph,
I used to live in Germany, Cologne. 2 years ago I moved to New York, Queens and I love it over here! It`s the greatest city on this @#$%& planet.
Forget about Germany. The people are stupid, the goverment is full of idiots and the weather sucks. Believe, since I've moved to NY havent been in Germany.
Take care
Danny

You're a shaker and a mover. You're here and now, and no one questions that. You defy disorder with a deft ability to manage people, control any situation with sharp foresight, think globally and act locally. You're informed of whats going on in reality, and act not on pretense but in the best interest of your future and your teammates, whether they're your friends, family, or collegues. You work hard, and party with the best of them- artists, bankers and rockstars alike, but never need to boast about it, because you made it here yourself- no bullshit; just truth and leadership no matter where you came from. You're tough as leather with a heart of gold. That's a new Yorker.

even though I live in south Arkansas(I'm not a hillbilly if that's what you think)I have always wanted to move to NYC.I think the statue of liberty is
right."give me your tired,your poor,your huddled masses,"everyone is a
newyorker.A 90-eyed -purple-alien-from uranus could come and live there.
(even that rude Sarah could be a New Yorker,as long as she'll stay away
from me)
p.s. does the weather in Germany really suck, like this other guy said?

I believe there are only two ways to be qualified as a real New Yorker: 1> Born here or 2> lived here since the gritty pre-Giuliani days. Seriously, you have to have experienced Times Square before MTV, Toys R Us, & the Disney store moved in, bought .uh..stuff in Washington Sq or Union Sq Park, played 'Which transe%ual looks most like a woman?' in the Meatpacking district, bought used records (yep, records!) at St Marks Sounds, took the 4 train to the Bronx when the Yankees sucked (well, sucked without a $200,000,000 payroll anyway), actually used a payphone, watched channel J, spent a few nights at Danceteria, the Underground, Tunnel, or the Palladium, slummed at Downtown Beirut, got carried out of Peter McManus, played three card monty, smoked in a bar!, used tokens in the subway, saw a Laser Floyd or Laser Zeppelin show at the Palladium, saw a Concert on the Pier, had late-night chicken vindaloo on East 6th street, remembered Keith Haring, ate at the real ray's on 6th avenue (not the 'original, or 'famous' or 'famous, original', seen the Jets play in Queens, ...you get the idea
