I don't agree with you. The last time I ate there (1985) the food was GREAT!

I'll jump into this one... Growing up here, going to Mama Leone's was a special treat. Then I grew up and discovered really good Italian food, and realized how mediocre Mama Leone's really was. Yet I would still go back when I felt nostalgiac. I hadn't been in many years, then the NY Times re-reviewed it about 10-15 years ago, and they were pretty kind. I went back with a friend of mine who also had fond memories of the place. Unfortunately, it was just as terrible as we remembered. I recall one dish we had with artichokes, and they used frozen artichokes, and canned mushrooms.

I still feel nostalgiac when I pass the location. And I wish Carmine's would take over that space.

Betty, I agree, it was part of the City and I liked it when I went there as a kid. But later.... Ken

It's in the Milford Plaza Hotel, right next door to the Majestic Theater ("Phantom"), corner of 44th & 8th.

I have just found a menu from Mamma Leone's from 1982. My parents went there on a trip to N. Y. When did it close?

It closed in the middle 1990s.

Could you send me copy of current menu in NYC Mamma Leones? I assume you are open.SPR

Mama Leones was a tourist trap serving mediocre (at best) Italian food. Real New Yorkers go down to Little Italy (or elsewhere) for Italian food. Times Square is for tourists.
