It is, indeed, a long slog. But it may be worth it to you.
You must take a $5 van shuttle to the Ronkonkoma train station. From there, there are hourly trains to NYC for around $10. The train takes 90 minutes. So allow 2-2.5 hours each way from Penn Station in NYC to that airport. Find schedules to Ronkonkoma at www.lirr.org.

islip airport is easiest and cheapest way to new york. if you are coming to islip
airport and wondering how much it will cost to get to manhattan. here is answer
that can help you. you have basically two options. first one you can take train
which it can two in half hours to destination or hire taxi or limousine service. believe or not if you are coming to islip more than two passenger to take taxi or limousine will be same money or cheaper. as a dependable transportation company in islip airport (ASM Limousine Service 1 718 790 13 ) www.asmlimousine.com is doing great and reliable job. and also ASM Limousine is providing pick up from manhattan to islip airport back. trip is 120 dolar all inclusive. if you compare islip airport to jfk airport or lga airport you can save 150 dolar each. time base to come islip airport it will take exaclt same amount of time even if islip airport located 47 miles away from manhhatan. why? in islip airport flights are on time, rarely flights get delay and to pick up your laggauage is much faster. basicly you will not spend any extra time.
