I came to NYC for the first time during Memorial day 2002. I want to live in NY near all the excitement, but I have kids and would love to find an area that is within reasonable distance to Manhatten that is a good family area. What areas should I look for?

Park Slope, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens---all neighborhoods in brooklyn which are family-friendly and close to Manhattan.
