MTA: JFK to Washington Heights

Posted by lone traveller
I'm arriving at JFK Terminal 1 on a sunday at 12-1 pm and travelling to Washington Heights. I was wondering how difficult it would be to take the airtrain to Howard Beach and then the A to 168th st in Washington Heights with a medium size suitcase?

I understand that it would take me about 2 hours to get to 168th but would it be hard to carry my suitcase around the stations and on the subway?

Also how packed and busy is it on the MTA around this time and day?

Hello LT
You're certainly going to make use of our mass transit in the most efficient manner I've used the AirTran myself to get out to JFK and I have to say is very reliable. Getting a seat on A train will not be a problem for your trek up to WH. I think your assessment on two hours is about right- you'll be just fine. Don't forget to bring a warm coat we're about to get hit with a cold snap.
