Decent restaurant in China Town

Hi,

I visited China Town in October and had one of the worst Chinese meals i have ever had (i did not actually eat it). I am going to return to New York at some point this year and was wondering if anybody could advise me of somewhere good to eat in China Town.

Oh and also in Little Italy.

Thank you.

tomorrow I'm going to an italian restaurant that I've heard is really good and I've been wanting to try...Ballato's at 55 E. Houston. That's little italy area, close enough. [newyork.citysearch.com]
Will let you know how it is.

Chinatown, my favorite restaurant is a thai place! Pongsri:

(I'm a little grossed out by some of the restaurants down there, it's not just you!)

a chinese friend of mine gave me this list as her favorite chinese restaurants in chinatown:
Joe's Shanghai
> 9 Pell St. between Bowery and Mott St. (233-8888).
> (Famous for the Shanghai's dumplings with meat, called "xiao long bao")
>
> Vegetarian Paradise
> 33 - 35 Mott St. (@ Pell St.), 406-6988
> (This is very good, huge dishes and delicious)
>
> House of Vegetarian (cheaper than Vegetarian Paradise)
> 68 Mott St. (btw. Bayard St. and Canal St.), 226-6572
>
> Vegetarian Dim Sum House
> 24 Pell St. between Canal and Bayard Sts. (226 -6572)

> Vietnam
> 11-13 Doyers St. between Bowery and Pell St. (693-0725)

ok, I said I'd come back and tell you about Ballato's (see above).
It was EXCELLENT.
Loved it. I'll give more detail under an "italian restaurant" thread.
Its really more on the lower east side, but probally the best for the money is "Fried Dumpling on 99 allen Street." There Great! ok there are better places but you can't beat the prices 5 dumplings or 4 pork buns for 1.00

I'll vote for Joe's Shanghai, too, for a great place in Chinatown. They also have a location on 56th St, where I was last night - I love this place. The soup dumplings are awesome, so are the scallion pancakes and everything else.
