Hi im moving for the first time to NYC in January and will most likley rent an apartment in Brooklyn. I have a budget of 3000$ and am looking for a two bedroom apartment in prospect park area. I need to know aprox. how much I should expect to pay in utlilites. I dont want to spent over 3000$ for rent and utilities.

for electric I'd expect to pay about $150 to $200 in summer if you use air conditioning often. That's really the only utility (other than phone if you get a land line) you will need to worry about. You can get on a program through Con Edison that you pay the same amount every month, something called level billing, which helps you if you want to budget each month.
