What are those smoke stacks midwtown east just before you go into the queens tunnel? They're really tall and one looks like it could crash into a nearby building if it fell O.o

I'm sure you must mean the old Con Edison power plant. I'm not sure it's still in use.

That old Con Ed plant on 1st and 40th Street was torn down LONG ago.
