I'm trying to find a cheap private school for my daughter (who is going into high school) because I'm moving to NYC next year. I'm looking for something that's in Manhattan or queens, where tuition is less than $20,000. I am not catholic, so all of those schools are out, and I'm looking for a school where the ethnicity is fairly balanced. What would you suggest?

I've seen web sites that compare private schools. Perhaps someone else can identify them, or lead you to the best source of info.

I don't know how strongly you feel about catholic schools but they do accept non-catholic students.

go for public schools, it's way more interesting
